    Holiday Chew

Hey, I want your guys’ opinion on this thing I’m trying. I washed out an old pill bottle, drilled a hole on the side and put veggies and kibble inside for him to get out. It looks like this. And after one day and yesterday

    Holiday Chew

Hi, I just wanted to update y’all and say that I decided to pass on this holiday chew and instead gave him a big chicken bone for Christmas

    Holiday Chew

Hi, I was looking on the pet smart website and I saw they have holiday themed chews for small pets but I can’t find the ingredients anywhere. It’s supposed to be rat safe but we all know that’s not always the case. I was wondering if anyone on here knows what ingredients it might have. I called...

    Happy late Halloween

I dressed up for Halloween with Jack as a chef and Remy from ratatouille. My school is having a Facebook competition and I would appreciate it if y’all would check it out. Thanks https://www.facebook.com/CentralCoastCollege/posts/2596481443731318

    Videos of Jack

Note: this is not his regular cage. He has URI and I didn’t want the kids from my mom’s daycare to stress him because his regular cage is in the living room so I placed him in my room where it’s warmer and quieter. He’s usually very social and sweet with the kids but I didn’t want them to bother...

    Upper respiratory infection

    Thank you

What do you guys think of people rehoming their pet rats?

I agree with people rehoming due to bad circumstances and rehoming when you get bored of the pet. I’m not saying that being bored of a pet is right, I’m just saying it’s better for the pet’s well-being. Some of you mentioned rehoming due to aggression and I can relate. When I first got Jack he...

    Upper respiratory infection

(Jack in the vet office) So Jack has a respiratory infection and I was prescribed .33ml doxycycline for 7 days which I have read on previous threads is not enough. The whole bottle is a total of 5ml and expires 11/30/2020. I was wondering if I could give him the whole bottle?

    Toe nail injury

Even though it only looks bruised you should still take him to the vet. I don’t want to be dramatic but it could become infected and poison his blood or necrotic. A sign of necrosis are black tissue because it is deceased due to infection or disease.

    Oxbow

Mine keep their food in their bowl or next to it. I’ve never had a problem with food mixing with their urine or feces so idk

    Oxbow

How much Oxbow do I need to give per rat? Up until a couple of weeks ago I had been feeding 3tbs of Kaytee fiesta mix per rat and it would last 2-3 days but ever since I transitioned to Oxbow it only lasts a day, maybe a day and a half. I still give 3tbs per rat and some veggies sprinkled in...

    Baby with funky leg

Kinda looks like a contracted tendon or a tendon that stopped growing. You should take her to the vet and get a proper diagnosis.

Do males always get aggressive during puberty?

I think I got a little lucky with Jack because I usually always wear socks when I play with him and he’s never bitten my feet. He also knows that my bare feet are still my feet. And I wear gloves to clean his cage because fecal oral, but he knows it’s still my hand and doesn’t bite.

Oh yeah he’s definitely not going anywhere near outside. And I also won’t let him out of my sight during playtime. He’s too precious to lose to some random predator.

This is the final set up, I know people don’t recommend placing hammocks in during a drive but I wanted him to be as comfy as possible for the long ride. These pictures are from 6pm and it’s currently 10pm, that’s why I used the small cage anyway.

Thanks Dena. I did bring his food bowl and the cardboard pieces he likes to put inside his hammock and some of his marked fleece and paper towels. I also brought his favorite tennis ball and his play pen
