    Sexing babies!

Hi, Is anyone able to help me tell the gender of these 2 babies? I think they look female, but just wanted a second opinion.

Introducing 3 babies to 3 adults

Hi, I have just bought 3 babies from a breeder in my area to go with my 3 rescue adults. They are 6 weeks old and 2 of them are quite confident but the other little girl is quite timid and has spent most of the time hiding in the corner. She’s the smallest of the group and the breeder said she...

    Mycoplasma in Rats

Would you say I can introduce her to others if this is the case? My thoughts were, if all rats have Myco there’s surely no way of telling how your rat will react. My girl will always have flare ups but that’s because she has lots of symptoms, my new girls may still have Myco but it may not even...

    Is my rat being bullied?

Thank you! I’m due to adopt 3 babies next week, do you think this would help to put the focus onto the babies rather than my skittish girl? I’m thinking the babies will be used to being pulled around by their mothers so would probably put up less of a fight!

    Mycoplasma in Rats

Are there any rat owners who have experience with rats with mycoplasma flare-ups and can explain what it actually is? In February I adopted a 1 year old female rat from the adoption section of a pet store. She was a lone rat and had been neglected by her previous owner - little was said about...

    IS MY RAT BLIND?

Thank you! I visited the vets and they have said that she has cataracts but it isn’t covering her whole eye so she should still have a little bit of sight. It doesn’t bother her so she’s all good. I didn’t know it could get worse though - that’s useful to bare in mind.

    Is my rat being bullied?

I recently adopted 3 rats (all 1 year old). 1 was left at a shelter as a lone rat (Missy) and the other 2 (Coco and Ciara) were adopted as friends for my lone rat. I have successfully done introductions, they have been in their cage for around 1 month now. But I have noticed that Coco and...

    IS MY RAT BLIND?

Hi, So I rescued two female rats to go with my lone female rat and I think one of them may have gone blind in one eye. She had two dark ruby eyes when I got her but suddenly one of her eyes has gone grey. I have included some photos below - does this need vetinary attention? She doesn’t seem to...

    HELP with introductions

I recently got 2 1 year old female rescue rats to go with my 1 year old lone rat (also a rescue). They hit it off straight away, as I’m using the carrier method - which is working really well. I am on stage 4 and they are now in a Furat Plus cage with 1 hammock. They haven’t fought since stage...

    HELP my rat is biting!

I have a rescue rat who was neglected quite badly in her previous home. She’s been with me for nearly 3 weeks now and I’ve been trying desperately to get her to be tame. She was never taken out of her cage in her previous home and from what we know she bit the owner when they first got her as a...

    Is this a happy boggle?

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knows whether this is a happy boggle (video link below)? I’ve posted on here quite a bit recently about my rescue rat who was neglected by her previous owner. She doesn’t let me pick her up yet, but will happily take food from my hand and give me a little...

Does Myco mean my rat can’t live with others?

Good news!! I called the vetinary practice which treated her when she was unwell. They have said that as long as she has no major flare ups within the next 1-2 months (e.g. whereby she needs a lot of treatment like last time) she can live with another rat! Thank you to everyone who responded...

Does Myco mean my rat can’t live with others?

Thank you so much. She isn’t on medication for her myco as the adoption centre treated her when she first came in. The treatment process took a whole month and she had to have 3 rounds of antibiotics. From what I understand the vet has said that she will probably not ever be ‘cured’ (I know myco...

Does Myco mean my rat can’t live with others?

Hi - I have also written another thread about my single female rat which I adopted a couple of days ago but after reading a comment, I need help on what’s the best thing to do for her. She came into the centre due to neglect as her owner had never taken her out of her cage and she has been...

    Help needed for new rescue!!

Thank you! I don’t have any other rats, just her. Yes she had myco, which will not ever go away properly. She’s not in any pain, but she makes little noises when she’s sleeping (due to the myco) and if housed with other rats she would most likely pass the myco onto them or her condition would...

That’s a good idea!! I’ll try it, I’m giving everything a shot at this point. :D

    Help needed for new rescue!!

Thank you, your advise was really helpful. I haven’t seen her be cage aggressive yet and she has taken treats from my hand in the cage but I was told by the adoption centre that she used to be really bad (they had to keep her out the back for a few months as she wasn’t ‘adoptable’) - I haven’t...

    Help needed for new rescue!!

Thank you so much, that’s a really great idea. I’m not sure if my girl will let me get her out the cage yet as she is absolutely terrified and I don’t want to spook her! I feel awful that she has to stay alone but I’m trying to spend as much time with her as possible, sitting by the cage and...

    Help needed for new rescue!!

Hi, Yesterday I adopted a little girl rat (about 10 months old) who was treated really badly in her previous home. The owner let her get so bad that she had such a bad respiratory infection that she is no longer allowed to live with other rats. She was kept on her own her whole life and I feel...
