    Lump on face

Thank you for the advice! It has been 2 or 3 days now and it looks like it might be getting a bit smaller. Maybe I am wrong. I will put a hot compress and see how it goes. If it doesn’t change I’ll take him. It would be a very strange spot to have a tumour form. Hopefully it is not that.

    huge bone like lump?

That’s what my ratty has kinda on his cheek, a very fast appearing almost out of nowhere bump. It’s kinda fatty and moves around. I’m hoping it’s just a cyst. I posted pictures of it under a different thread. Maybe they have the same thing!

    Lump on face

My rat suddenly has a descent size squishy lump near his chin/cheek. It almost looks like he has food stored in there but he doesn’t. It was not there the day before! The other night I noticed he was limping a bit but it was so minor I just thought he knocked himself a bit - now I’m wondering if...

    Lost my boy tonight

This too was posted by SQ just for extra info on the topic. There are very conflicting opinions and articles on the topic. I have done much research, from what I can tell as long as the animal is completely out of it because of drugs administered or gas than that is what matters most. The vets...

    Lost my boy tonight

Yes I 100% agree on getting rats from breeders, but most of my rats are saved from people who didn’t want them but I am guilty of being ignorant and getting a few from the pet store years back - now I would never ever do that. I have seen almost all of my rats put down, I brought them to an...

    Lost my boy tonight

Also Gollum is a great name for a bald rat ☺ and he was very lucky to have you

    Lost my boy tonight

Thank you for sharing your story always makes me feel better to be less alone in hard situations. I really needed to hear all that. He was my only bald rat and I will really miss having him. The more I am looking into pituitary tumour the more I realize that’s exactly what he had and by the time...

    Ratty building a wall

    Lost my boy tonight

Yes I’d like to see the article, that brings me comfort, now that I think about it he really was less able to hold food and I saw him bending down to take bites so I started holding it for him. Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.

Also thank you for the kind words I really appreciate and need that right now

    Lost my boy tonight

He was very confused, disoriented, losing weight, stopped eating hard food so I’d feed him soaked rat food and anything yummy that was mushy for him, I did not see him drink either, he was sneezing a bit but was on medication for it, his eyes were always having issues too and that had to be...

    Lost my boy tonight

I lost my sweet ratty, he was 2 years and 2 months and a bald rat. He had lots of issues near the end. I just feel awful like maybe I made a mistake in opting for euthanasia. Maybe it was too fast. The option was to try painkillers or euthanasia and I thought he’d be done suffering but just...

    Bald rat eye problems

Thank you! Super helpful! Since removing the fluff from his eyes he looks much better! I’ll try to find a custom hammock place or maybe I’ll attempt to make my own, he chews the hammocks that are lined with some type of fluffy material so I think that’ll help. I’ll try the vetbed stuff too! I’ll...

    Bald rat eye problems

Would it be the same as fleece? I always thought they were kinda similar but I’m no expert :) I’ll look into it. If paper or flannel is better than fleece in terms of fluffiness when getting chewed than that would definitely be a much easier solution than my crazy ideas haha! I’ll just have to...

    Bald rat eye problems

Yeah I’m wondering if paper would be better than fabric in terms of dust or getting stuck to his eyes!? No harm in trying that’s for sure :)) So far I’ve gotten rid of his fabric hammock and only put in those plastic huts that attach to the ceiling of the cage, he still has fleece for now...

    Bald rat eye problems

Thank you :) I did the other side too, at least now I know that I can do it myself. I’m really surprised that fleece was the cause of this but he really does enjoy making nests with the fabric so I’ll just have to find something else!!! Really don’t know what to try, if you have any suggestions...

    Bald rat eye problems

update! I just managed to take out a chunk of stuff from his eye. I thinks it’s fleece, so I’ll change the bedding, but to what type of bedding. I’ll try to do the other eye as well.

    Bald rat eye problems

Here is what the vet gave me for him and a pic of his eye. He was squirmy so it’s not the best picture but you can see the build up in the corner and how his lid is a bit swollen looking. After analyzing I’m thinking I should definitely bring him to the vet again! And should I change his bedding...

    Bald rat eye problems

Thank you for the reply! I use fleece bedding, I put an air purifier near him and a humidifier because he’s near the heater too since he’s bald. He did not used to have this problem and not much has changed other than his cage mates who were always fluffy. I will post a picture. The build up is...

    Bald rat eye problems

He kinda has a moustache lol apart from that he’s completely bald. I use fleece bedding but maybe it’s still possible for dust to build up in his eyes? - I’m not sure, I was hoping fabric would be better than the other options when it comes to air quality and dust and all that. The vet told me...
