When I have rescues, I usually give them 48 hours to get used to the cage before giving them free run time, but you can start bonding right away. Offering treats, gently stroking them or offering your hand is good. Sounds like you're already doing that!

I love Rick and Morty. It's so nihilistic. But one episode in the third season involved Rick (pickle Rick) doing something horrible to rats. I thought they should be able to get their own back... Don't worry, little Aeryn didn't get to keep the pickle. :D

Thanks SQ. :) . That is helpful. She's not at the mush stage, yet, but she does scoff baby food when she can. We've had to deal with rats with HLD, so cage design shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah, the stories were inspired by my first three adoptees. One of them pushed her way into my loo and jumped into the toilet. I had to fish her out (and secure the door better) - and that made me realise just how mischievous they are. Perfect heroes for a book.
