Rat stressed due to new smells when I leave the house

Hi all, I find myself at a loss here. We've had a traumatic year and a half with our girls, going from seven in early 2020 to two now thanks to a myco flare up throughout the colony. The two left seem fairly stable, though are on long term antibiotics to control the myco symptoms. The issue I am...

    Upper respiratory infection in colony

Thanks lilspaz. They were on doxy and baytril for months with no real improvement, would you expect all symptoms to go away for a while on that combo?

    Upper respiratory infection in colony

Hi all, Follow on from my previous post about hiding aniseed flavour meds in food. We've been fighting an upper respiratory infection since march with all five of my girls showing symptoms at some point or other. We sadly lost the eldest to it, looked like her heart gave out after a fortnight...

Hiding aniseed flavoured antibiotics for administering to rats?

Thanks Lilspaz, I'm hoping the different flavour will arrive at the vets today

Hiding aniseed flavoured antibiotics for administering to rats?

Hi all, We've been struggling with what we thought was a myco flare up since march. After months of Baytril and Doxycycline I sought the advice of a breeder here in the UK who said she thought it more likely it might be pasturella. On her advice we have tried switching to Bisolvon and...

    Hind leg fracture

So today is the day. Not looking forward to this at all. Sad there wasn't another option but the xrays showed the joint basically obliterated. No idea what she did to cause that. Feels cruel to take her leg away when she still uses the foot for anchorage, even though the specialists have said...

Thank you. This is really helpful

    Hind leg fracture

Not specifically but I did have her in my hospital cage with supervised play outings for a fortnight. Nothing really improved sadly. She'll be back in the hospital cage today after the op but it was just stressing her out so she's been in the main cage for the last week. I was hoping something...

    Hind leg fracture

Thanks @lilspaz68. Have her booked in for next week and am keeping her on metacam while we wait. She's being a total monster so it's no surprise she destroyed the joint. Her favourite way to get down from higher up the cage is to just drop... regardless of the hammocks and shelves she could use...

    Hind leg fracture

Hi both, just had the verdict from the orthopaedic specialist. They are very concerned about the leg, particularly about there being a tumour, and don't think it's calcification, but we'd need a biopsy to be sure. @lilspaz68 could you give me a run down of your experience with amputations in...

    Hind leg fracture

Hi all, just had a call from the vet following an xray of Angel. Turns out she has a fractured hind leg, which is showing up on the xray as possibly due to a tumour, or with calcification around the fracture. Knowing Ange I wouldn't be surprised if she broke it doing something silly in the cage...

    Home remedies for lice

Hi all, just noticed my youngest has lice. She's not been into contact with any rats other than my eldest since we brought her home nearly 2 months ago. Unfortunately the vet doesn't have any appointments till tuesday (bank holiday weekend). Does anyone know of a home remedy I can use to keep...

    Posible Zymbal's Gland Tumour?

I think you're right, haven't asked the vets to do a post mortem or anything but will keep that in mind if I ever have a similar issue with another baby. Proud of her for fighting it the whole way. It's stranger than I thought it would be without her cheeky little face. Thank you ❤

    Ghost 07/16 - 07/11/18

Thank you both. The room seems a lot bigger without her out to play. Will miss her terribly but I'm glad she's pain free.

    Ghost 07/16 - 07/11/18

Had to let my gorgeous babygirl go this morning. She was the unplanned rattie we had to take home so she wouldn't be left alone and she wormed her way right into my heart. 2 years and single mom status later and I genuinely have no idea what to do without her. My cheeky adventurous ghost-machina.

    Posible Zymbal's Gland Tumour?

Thanks lilspaz68 for your help. After seemingly improving yesterday I had to let her go this morning. Will miss her but she just got worse and worse between my posting earlier and 9am.

    Posible Zymbal's Gland Tumour?

Actually you're right, I looked through the other ZGT posts last night and I don't think it is that anymore. It's definitely not progressed the same. Felt the mass again tthis morning, now the swelling has reduced around it and it is on her jaw line. Only problem is she's been choking and...

    Posible Zymbal's Gland Tumour?

Sorry yes it is directly below her ear. The below is slightly unfocused but it does show how big the area around where her jaw hinges is. Will try to get a video of her walking later. She's currently hiding and I don't want to stress her out too much.

    Posible Zymbal's Gland Tumour?

Hi all, Sadly back again looking for advice for Ghost. She started losing weight last week, with a swelling to the side of her face, and a lump on her jaw. Took her to the vet 02/11 because she developed balance issues and have had her on enrobactin and metacam since then. Swelling to the...
