    Losing all my rats.

Just want to express how sorry I am for your loss. Even one death is hard to deal with, but that's an overwhelming amount of grief for such a short period. I'm so sorry. It sounds like you did the best you could for them too. It's sad

Rat Cages - Canada - Where do I find an appropriate cage?

@heatherton Thank you, I really appreciate hearing that right now because I'm so frustrated. I care deeply about my rats, and I'm always working hard to give them a better environment, place to live and new things to explore so it gets... it kind of smarts to be told their well being all comes...

Rat Cages - Canada - Where do I find an appropriate cage?

Honestly, yeah, I do have limited funds and still want to own pets. That's why I'm economical. I saved 600 dollars here that I can spend in a vet emergency later. I really absolutely hate the sentiment of 'if you love your pet you'll always go for the most expensive option'. It spits on people...

Rat Cages - Canada - Where do I find an appropriate cage?

I honestly don't think the CN is the only viable cage. I do think I've been patient but getting told CN is my only option, or the only option for people even when outside America is just plugging a company at this point. Honestly I don't think 'CN or you're a terrible owner' is a great...

Rat Cages - Canada - Where do I find an appropriate cage?

I meant American amazon doesn't sell it, but yeah it is available on Amazon.ca. Just not at a cheap price, or one cheaper than making your own cage/some alternatives. I do think CN is a good cage, just way less cost efficient for people outside of America

Rat Cages - Canada - Where do I find an appropriate cage?

Most places do not ship cages to Canada (including Amazon), and in cases where they do its it's a huge cost. It is literally impossible for people outside of the US to get this cage for even roughly the same price. Trust me, I've done a lot of cage hunting. It is not a cheap alternative

    Help with rat gender identification?

I've heard girls can sometimes get grease due to hormones

Rat Cages - Canada - Where do I find an appropriate cage?

@mwp051699 You are severely underestimating the cost of Critter Nation cages outside of the USA. It costs a lot of money for a non-USA resident to buy a Critter Nation cage, probably double whatever the initial USA cost is. @JesusFreeman Honestly, I think it's admirable whenever someone can...

Rat Cages - Canada - Where do I find an appropriate cage?

@SQ Sorry to bother you again, but you mentioned tubes and space pods before. What kind/where do you recommend getting those? When I look online I'm having trouble finding something appropriate for rats

Rat Cages - Canada - Where do I find an appropriate cage?

It's 31 × 20 × 39. It's size is part of why it seems like such a good deal. I was looking for something because my previous cage had a quite plastic bottom that was finally seeing some issues. Linoleum and litter boxes are a good idea. I'll post a picture of the cage soon. I've been using...

Rat Bites Me When Being Hand Fed

He hasn't bitten me at all since. I've been closing my hand around the food before giving it to him, just so he's more aware of my hand. He's always sweet when he licks soft foods. Spoon method works as well, he's been a lot better recently.

Rat Cages - Canada - Where do I find an appropriate cage?

I have a bottom grate on my current cage that I got for a deal, how do you line yours? I've been putting mats on mine, but this results in a lot of litter I have to vaccuum up. I got this on a deal for 99 dollars (sweet deal I think), but my issue is the bottom tray is plastic (and chewable)...

VERY timid rats.. can someone help me?

The original thing I used to do was stick my hand in their cage to have them get used to it, and just sit there. Just have your hand as part of the cage atmosphere and they usually eventually get curious, even if you don't have treats. Are they scared of being picked up? Do they run or dart...

will my rats kill African Soft Fur rats?

Honestly, I'm not sure about the ethics behind the genetics of dwarf rats, but I do know there are dwarf rats that get along well with normal rats. I'd be very afraid and cautious about it though, personally

Rat Bites Me When Being Hand Fed

He's been more gentle thereafter... Maybe I just need to really make sure he's alone

How often do you wash hammocks?

I wash once a week, but I've heard rats have a tendency to pee more frequently if everything in the cage is cleaned, so I often clean the hammock at a separate time from everything else, about a day after cage cleanings. My rats usually keep their hammock pretty clean though

Rat Bites Me When Being Hand Fed

So I've never had this issue before. In general, I've never had a rat continuously bite me when feeding them. Certainly, I've never had it happen twice AND draw blood like it has here with this rat. He's normally a very sweet guy! Very gentle! But when I feed Nerves (my rat) around other rats...

Rat Cages - Canada - Where do I find an appropriate cage?

I'm looking for a cage about 100-150 CAD, and no matter where I look there's cages being sold hundreds of dollars past what they're being sold in America (the same cages). Where can I find a decent cage that meets the requirements for say, about 4 rats but that isn't selling for 400+? I've felt...

Do all male rats become aggressive towards their owners

Rats are some of the sweetest, easiest to handle rodents in my experience. Even pretty stressed out rats rarely bite. Domestic rats are very gentle. There's some rats out there who have trauma or other issues that need some gentle patience, but genuine biters seem pretty rare. 14/16 of the rats...

    Allergies?

Ah I see someone recently asked about allergies. I'll keep the advice there in mind. I still wonder about the carefresh though
