7-9 Week Black Hooded Female Needs Rehoming - Denton, TX

Hi all, I have a 7-9 week old female rat named Cheerio that needs rehoming. She's super sweet and smart! She loves cheerios, hence her name, and will take treats out of hands gently. I'd love her to go to a home with other girls as it is just her currently. She is not yet spayed. Rehoming fee...

    New owner and diet!

How old is she right now and do you know what food she was being fed where she previously lived? I currently give my rats oxbow adult rat food, they were never fans of the garden select and picked around it lol :)

Ovary/Liver(?) Tumor in 1 Yr. Old Female Rat

Hi all, I haven't posted in a while but I'd thought I'd hop on and ask about something. To make a long story short, my youngest female rat (who was a rescue that was orig. a feeder) developed a large lump on her side. I took her to the vet and she got an xray. The vet said that she has a...

    My rat is convulsing.

I agree with London, definitely take them to the vet as soon as possible to get them looked at. Respiratory problems can turn horrible fast for rats. Hopefully you can get some medicine for Inknut to get them back to feeling good! Keep us updated <3

    Are my rats content?

The cage will need to have something on the wire floors like bedding or fleece to protect their feet. It could be that they aren't too adventurous yet because it takes a while for rats to get used to their new environment, just wait and socialize with them a lot they should come out of their...

    Fleas and Cage Items(?)

Yes, the prescription was kitten advantage, dosage was just 1 drop. Got it! I'll do all of this to make sure I thoroughly get all of them, hopefully this will rid of them once and for all!

    Fleas and Cage Items(?)

So my boys have (had) fleas. They've been to the vet and have now been treated with Advantage, but I still have a question. They have a little fluffy bed (this one) and they absolutely adore it, but of course it's covered in fleas. Would it do anything to put it in the freezer for a couple days...

    best DIY platforms for cage?

Here's a good post that SQ made earlier last year with a lot of excellent tips on how to keep your rats cool: https://www.ratshackforum.com/threads/ideas-for-how-to-help-your-ratties-deal-with-the-heat.35548/

    best DIY platforms for cage?

Something I've done for extra platforms in my cage in the past is buy cheap baskets (the kind with holes in the side) from the dollar store and some zip ties to secure them to the bars. Then I filled the baskets with fleece for bedding. I've never worked with hardware cloth myself, but it does...

    Is it time for euthanasia?

So sorry to hear about your loss <3

    Is it time for euthanasia?

If he can still get around and is not refusing to eat or drink it may be too soon to put him down. I would definitely take him to the vet to see if they have any other options. SQ is right, more information would help to be able to accurately see what condition he's in.

    antibiotic administration; rattie refusing

I've had to give one of my boys medicine through a syringe everyday, since he's on steroids for a tumor. He really likes specifically savory baby foods so I mix the medication with that usually. Another thing you can try since you've mentioned that you've tried baby food is something a little...

    Letting Your Rats Free Roam?

I had the same thoughts! My fear is that they're going to squeeze some place I can't follow and I won't be able to find them! My guys all enjoy sitting on my shoulder and regular playtime so I'll probably just stick to that mostly :)

    Letting Your Rats Free Roam?

Like dogs or cats :) Does anyone else do it? I haven’t really done it because it makes me kind of nervous to not be entirely sure where they are at all times, but I’ve seen that some people just let their rats run around everywhere. I’ve been kind of curious about it, it sounds fun to have on...

Do I need to get my rats teeth clipped? Pain med dose?

My little rat has teeth issues as well. I'd definitely take him to the vet and get them to look at them/trim them. My boy does those cleaning motions too, but mostly I think it's just that the teeth can get a little uncomfortable rather than painful. As long as he's still eating and you get him...

Southridge Animal Hospital - Denton, TX

I love these guys! Dr. Jones is one of the more experienced vets I've seen and specifically is a small animal and exotics vet. My first two rats I brought to them needed to be neutered because of hormonal aggression, and I had absolutely no complications with the surgery. Although I don't...

    Boggling, wagging tails

That's so funny that your rats would all wag their little tails, it sounds so cute! :) I don't think there's anything wrong with them, none of my rats have ever wagged their tails, and they've only boggled when they're extremely relaxed! I really just think it all depends on your ratties'...

    Archie Pictures :)

I got some professional pictures one of my rats taken and they're just so cute I can't not share them with everyone! Sneaky! Cleaning his hands after finishing up a yogurt treat :) Here he is in the front pocket of my overalls! One of the cutest pics imo
