Can rats have cooked red lentils?

I was planning on feeding my rats cooked red lentils/red split lentils. Do they have to be left to soak? Or can they be soaked quickly and cooked?

    Beans?

I’ve read that they can be fed, but NOT raw. Raw is bad for them, so they need to be cooked first. I’ve fed them chickpeas from a tin because they’ve been cooked first. However, from a bag they need to be soaked and cooked before being fed to your rats. So yes, only cooked can be fed to...

Update on blind rat, still need help?

Possibly. He’s hard to handle and jumpy. He also has stereotypical lab rat features.

Update on blind rat, still need help?

I doubt he’s in pain. When I first went into the shop to get rats, the woman brought the non biter one out fine, but she tried to manhandle him, and I’m assuming that’s why he’s biting. I had to tell her to leave him because he was so frightened. I’m wondering if he’s having a hard...

    Good rat litter?

I used to buy this litter/bedding for their litter boxes, but now I use it for their bottom cage layer of bedding. I thought if I used the same for their litter they’d think ‘okay let’s poop everywhere it’s basically a giant litter box’ hehe. I then bought sanicat cat litter. It’s...

Update on blind rat, still need help?

And for anyone with aggressive rats. Try whipped cream, it’s a good hand food that they can’t bite as too fluffy and they love the stuff. I only use it for hand taming though.

Update on blind rat, still need help?

So I’ve been working behind the scenes. I stopped putting my fingers near the bars and offered the back of my hand for sniffing before hand feeding. He got the idea of it and hasn’t bitten since. He can tolerate being picked up barely which is also good. Today he had bit me, but my reflexes...

How often do you feed your ratties?

I thought oatmeal was high in protein. Here in Scotland it’s called porridge and it’s at 11%? Is that too high? I do veggies every night

Afraid to put hand near biting rat?

I don’t have a play area at the moment. Ash (the nice one) usually roams the house when the dogs are outside so he gets the entire place (kitchen, stairs and so on). There isn’t anywhere he can get harmed like small open spaces in the wood work or anything so he free roams. I’ve tried the...

Afraid to put hand near biting rat?

I’ve took him out twice, both times in a shoe box and he bites when being picked up. I’ve put his cage on the floor, with him inside and left the door open. He was fine coming up to the door and stuff but when he came out of the cage, he panicked and couldn’t get back in (he couldn’t see...

Afraid to put hand near biting rat?

It is, only he won’t let me touch him when he’s near me. He has only been out the cage twice and they were disasters in about the 5 weeks since I’ve had them.

Afraid to put hand near biting rat?

He lives with his other cage mate, Ash. Ash has no trouble in trusting me, he enjoys climbing up my arms and on my shoulders. I think he sees Ash trusting me and that’s given him some trust towards me. I’ve worked with gloves on him and he no longer bites unless threatened.

Afraid to put hand near biting rat?

I can’t lift him or put him in a tshirt as he is very alert on the things I put in the cage.

Afraid to put hand near biting rat?

He is very alert. I can treat him, and sometimes he will come to the cage door, but when I go to touch him, he usually turns around or moves. He doesn’t allow me to full on pet. I’ve gave him whipped cream on the top of my hand, with my fists fully clenched and he’s took that gently, but...

Afraid to put hand near biting rat?

He does, another males. He's ace and his cagemate is ash, his cage mate is fine and is forming quite the bond so he doesn't bite. But ace comes out, won't let me touch him.

Afraid to put hand near biting rat?

I've got a PEW, and since having him for 3/4 weeks he's bitten at least 2 or 3 times. Not enough to draw blood but enough to cut. I've been working with him, he's stopped snatching food from me (with gloves on) and is now taking the food gently. He is now also taking food off a spoon gently...

How often do you feed your ratties?

I'm not sure on how often to feed them. I leave their normal food bowl filled up, incase they want that. But in the mornings at around 7am I wake up and give them breakfast, be that porridge/oatmeal, yogurt or baby food. I then head to college and get back at around 4pm, and usually feed them...

Update on blind rat, still need help?

So my 2 ratties males have been with me for exactly 15 days, so two weeks basically. Ash, likes me. He'll jump on the door bars if I approach and come running out for food (is greedy so I'm cutting down on it's fruit intake, feeding them veggies everyday). He's a sweetheart and enjoys time out...

    Freezing veggies/fruits?

Hahaha I thought about mushrooms since they're definitely a favourite amongst the ratties!!! Better not now [emoji23]

How to change a rats cage with a scared rat inside?

I was told by the shop that he had super bad eyesight, and that was also proved by him biting me before. He's getting better though, can tolerate me being around when he's out and does sniff up towards me a lot more for treats!! [emoji16]
