Looking for a SMALL rat cage!

I'm looking for a small-ish cage for my rats. I'm driving across country and packing my rats in the back. I have 2 cages already, but with 8 rats I think they'd be a bit happier with more room. Doesn't need to be fancy, but I'd like a plastic bottom and in decent condition. Like I said something...

    Adopting an Older Single Male

Looks like this boy is gone.. hopefully to a loving home! He is not on their website anymore.. There is a lone black hooded female though, if you're interested in adopting. She's at Pet Valu at College and Augusta. I used to work at this store, but left before the rats arrived... She came in...

Tumor Removal - When to consider it

So, my boy Finn has a mammary tumor. I posted on here a while ago (January) that I thought he had one, but you could only slightly see it from a certain angle and when you felt it, it didn't really feel like anything. My vet saw him at that time and we decided to wait and see if it grew or not...

Hope's Rescued rats, adoptables and lifers- December Update

Oh that mink self boy is just precious! I have 3 mink boys, I love that colour. And the other boy that you say looks blue but isn't, he might be a lilac? I'm glad you live far away because I don't have room for any more rats at the moment! I'm a sucker for mink/lilac AND selfs/berkshires. I...

All Living Things Multiple Level Cage?

From what I understand, it is the exact same cage, only difference is it doesn't have the 'Critter Nation' logo on the doors. I've seen this cage in person at petsmart and I couldn't tell any difference between it and my CN. I'm seriously considering driving down to Buffalo to get this cage :p...

    vegan?

I prefer almond and hazelnut milk. Almond more for general purpose and the hazelnut milk as a yummy drink on it's own. My favourite brand is Isola Bio, it's made in Italy I believe and you can find it at Whole Foods or other health food stores. It's all organic, no added sugars and vegan. They...

How do you cope with the reality that people are feeding rats to their reptiles?

I recognize that snakes need to eat as well, and some people enjoy keeping them. But I do not think feeding them live is ok, nor is it safe for either animal. The worst part to me about feeding live mice/rats is not even that the animal is being killed, but that the people do it often seem to...

    Dentastix?

I suppose it would be fine to give just this once to use them up (like I don't think there's anything immediately dangerous about it), but Dentastix are really unhealthy, and I wouldn't feed them to my dogs or my rats. They're mainly grain by-products, sugar and salt.

    Sphagnum moss?

Does anyone have any idea whether this is safe for rats or not? I have part of a bag left over from my failed attempt at growing a venus fly trap and I have nothing to do with it. I've already relinquished the terracotta pots to the rats :p and I thought they might have fun using the moss as a...

Sneezing and vets have no clue

I'm not sure why they gave you Metacam? Metacam is a pain killer... Your baby needs to be on antibiotics.. There are people far more knowledgeable about this than me (I've only had to use antibiotics once with any of my rats), but he needs to be on a combo of antibiotics, generally baytril and...

    Coroplast and Aquarium Sealant?

I recently made pans out of coroplast for my cage - I got tired of using fleece I made the sides 6 inches tall and I also made ones for the smaller levels. My boys really love it! I think they enjoy being able to dig in the bedding. Way easier to clean each week and I have basically no mess...

Obese rats when I came home from vacation

You could also try making some foraging toys. You can put some veggies and a portion of their rat blocks in an empty cardboard egg carton, and then stuff it with toilet paper. That way they have to work for their food a bit, and then they get to play with the fun toilet paper afterwards! It's...

    Cage pans!

I made my coroplast pans yesterday and I just finished putting them in the cage now. So far I'm enjoying them! The boys also seem to enjoy having bedding, they're digging around and throwing it everywhere! I'm going to experiment some with bedding.. I've used CareFresh Ultra in the past, but I...

    Never bruxing anymore

They may just not brux.. doesn't mean they're not happy! For example, my mom has a dog that doesn't wag his tail! We actually thought something was physically wrong with him when he was a baby because of it. The only time I've ever seen his tail move is if he's sleeping and having a dream. But...

    atlantis rattery?

If you're in an area being serviced by Atlantis, there are definitely tons of rescues available to you. I know this because I've rescued 10 rats over the past 4 years. So overpriced, poorly bred rats from an unethical breeder and half dead pet store rats are not your only options. Pretty much...

    Huge infected wound **very graphic**

Just looking at the photos again... Her feet look quite pale? Rattie feet are usually quite pink. It may just be the lighting though, and you say she's energetic.. But does she feel cold to the touch at all?

    Huge infected wound **very graphic**

Oh my god.. thank you for saving this little one.. I think putting her to sleep would be the best thing for her... I can't believe they wanted money for her?? Keep your receipt: I would go after the pet store and report them for neglect. That right there is severe neglect, withholding of vet...

    New Additions -The FAMILY Edition

Yes, definitely still into everything! And very licky! He did stop peeing on me after a couple weeks of having him though, which I appreciate!! He really seems to love being handled and will let me do basically anything to him and he just flops over :P I love rolling him over and tickling his...
