    Critter Nation Questian!

I have a Critter Nation for my 3 girls right now and since I sew, I make my own covers for the pans. In a pinch, I've also taken a large piece of fabric, not necessarily fleece, but maybe a heavier cotton or cotton flannel and fit it to the pans. I use a large safety pin underneath of the pan to...

My male intact rat "Lucky" has a lump inside hind leg

Thanks for all your concern for Lucky. The pred was prescribed, I'm sure to slow down the progression of the tumor. I believe the vet gave it to him for this reason, and to allow me to have a little while longer with him. This tumor is aggressive and I believed it from the beginning when I felt...

Hard knot/something inside Baileys stomache area ??

Hi Paula, I was reading this thread because I too have a boy rat with a tumor, but his is wrapped around his hind leg and inside of the groin area between the leg and boy parts. His tumor is very hard and the news I got was not good for Lucky. You can read my thread if you like. However, the...

My male intact rat "Lucky" has a lump inside hind leg

Well, I have very bad news about Lucky's visit today. As soon as the vet started to examine the lump, she said, "Oh, my I don't like the way this feels...it's very hard, it's not a normal adenoma.." She went on to advise me that to remove the lump, she would end up needing to remove his leg...

My male intact rat "Lucky" has a lump inside hind leg

Thanks for your opinion on Lucky. Yeah, after thinking about it, you are correct that I shouldn't give any meds to him as it would "mask" the situation. I was able to speak to the vet and said the same thing. I've made an appointment for Friday for Lucky to be seen. I talked with the vet on the...

My male intact rat "Lucky" has a lump inside hind leg

Last night I found a lump on the inside of Lucky's hind leg. I also noticed that he does not have normal mobility-flexibility of that leg either. His foot appears quite normal, no swelling or signs of abnormal blood flow. I felt the hind leg muscle on the outside and it is rather lumpy...not...

Strange Behaivor from Mamma B after intro

Well...good news! All of the girls are doing pretty darn well after they were all dabbed with a little vanilla extract and had a chance to play in the pen again together...and then walla.....the all went home together..in the big Martins cage...a few upsets here and there, mostly with Mamma B &...

Strange Behaivor from Mamma B after intro

Yeah, after a while, the plastic litter pans get chewed on the edges and they are inexpensive anyway. I usually get the litter pans for the rabbits so it's nice and big. Well, the intro didn't happen tonight..had to work late so tomorrow we are giving it a try. I will post my results. Julie...

Strange Behaivor from Mamma B after intro

That makes a lot of sense about the girls talking to each other. I almost had that feeling when I looked down inside the play pen and saw Angel looking upwards out of that barn window making direct eye contact with Mamma B while she was inside her cage. They were about 3 feet from each other...

Strange Behaivor from Mamma B after intro

I've had Mamma B and her baby, Nikki since September of '08. Proudly adopting them from Small Angels Rescue :) They've had a couple of cage mates in the past year that sadly have passed on, and now they are the only two girls in my Martin's 695. However, this past June, I adopted another rat...

    Candy has gone the Bridge..

:flowers3: My himi girl, Candy went to the bridge tonight. I'm sad of course, but I know it was the right time and the best thing for her. Last Thursday I took her and several other rattties to the vet. One of the other girls, another Himi named Sweet Pea had not been acting herself and also...

GROOOOOOOOOOOSS!!!! Have you ever had a rat do this???

Yes, I agree they shouldn't have a wire bottom in their cage. I'd remove the wire bottom of the cage or cover it completely with something like plastic needlepoint canvass. You can purchase it in any craft store and attach it with the plastic wire ties. It scrubs clean with a brush when you do...

GROOOOOOOOOOOSS!!!! Have you ever had a rat do this???

:laugh4: In the four years I've had rats, I just saw this for the first time 2 nights ago! I thought I was seeing things...cuz I had just cleaned out the cage and I knew there maybe was 1 or 2 terds on the cage floor and I thought I saw her grab one and eat it! I wasn't sure, but I could have...

    In memory of Basil

Oh! What a wonderful thing for your vet to do for your sweet little man! That would have made me cry too Jen. I still think about your boys and how much you loved them. They were very lucky to have you. Julie

    Help! Rhys is breathing wierd...

I know you posted a few days ago. How is he doing today? Have you ever used amoxy? I usually start out with that for a sneezy rat and in a few days if there is no change I will switch to another, like the doxy or baytril. Sometimes a combo of two but you really should contact your vet about...

    Basil - ??? - 11/14/2008 5:02pm

Jen, I am really sorry about Basil. I know he had a special place in your heart and he will be missed. You are such a good rat mom and your rats are blessed to have you love them so much. Your tribute is so beautiful. Hugs to you ...Julie :roseopen:
