    Scotty

Poor little guy! I bought tube socks to use as ramp covers when my girls chewed up the originals--they pretty much leave them alone except for the between-levels ramp. I stopped putting a sock on that one because they would tear it up when I closed it to separate the levels for cleaning. Hope...

Lexie in better days. She would have been two years old on Monday. :(

    Serious eye issues

Good evening all, I've had a good deal of tragedy over the past couple of months--I lost two of my girls to PT, one within a week of me realizing she had the symptoms. Her sister, though, passed after a very odd problem with her eyes that I still don't understand. Lexie had had a couple of...

the Established Gradual Introduction Steps used when putting new rats together

Thanks for getting back with me so quickly! My babies' stinkiness may well be diet-related. They are predominantly white--I think if the smell was due to uncleanliness, they would look dirty. I looked up the Zeigler's formulations and they all have a much higher protein content than...

the Established Gradual Introduction Steps used when putting new rats together

I have a question about your statement that baby rats don't smell like rats. Last week, I picked up three six-week-old babies and noticed that, frankly, they stink. They smell like a dirty barn. I initially put that down to their having a different diet than all of my previous rats--they were...

    Quarantine quandary

You could not have asked for a sweeter little girl, either. She was always happy, always kissy. We miss her very much.

    Quarantine quandary

Thank you. I've been reviewing the intro recommendations. We will definitely take things super-slow. I'd like to believe Casey would not hurt the babies, but she has been through a lot. I don't want to take the chance of there being a misunderstanding.

Rosie the Bold (and blurry)! She is supposed to be a ruby-eyed pearl hooded. I guess we'll see how pearl she is, but her ruby eyes are gorgeous! She has a great personality, too.

    Quarantine quandary

Thank you for your reply, and thank you for your condolences. The only thing that made it easier was that I did not have to ask the vet to euthanize her--I have felt horribly guilty every time I've had to do that. Little Ellie had a joyful life--I wish she could have been with us longer...

    Quarantine quandary

Good evening all, I'm hoping the more experienced rat caregivers here can help me decide on a good course of action... Up until last Sunday, I had two girls from the same litter, who were not quite eleven months old. Casey is a normal, healthy, athletic young lady, but sadly, her sister...

    Post-operative knot?

Thank you, everyone. My hopes were in vain. There was nothing to be done that wouldn't have prolonged her suffering. Our vet let us stay by her side while they gave her gas and the final injection. I hope that gave her some comfort.
