Rat falling to the side/off balance

Sorry to leave everyone hanging like that. Dexter is still okay. I took him to the vet on Tuesday (tried to get him in on Monday but the vet I was going to apparently changed his hours and is only in the office on Wednesday, so I found another vet that couldn't take him until Tuesday), and she...

Rat falling to the side/off balance

He's not circling, he just seems to keep falling onto his left side. Like I said in my first post he's still using his left paw to hold himself up while he eats, holding his food in his right paw. At least that's what it looks like to me. But when he walks, he just keeps tipping over towards the...

Rat falling to the side/off balance

Well, even though I took away the ramp, he still had enough strength to someone climb his way to the top of the cage. So I put the ramp back in because if he's going to climb up there anyway, better for him to have an easier way to do it. I JUST noticed the symptoms today, so I hope he'll be...

Rat falling to the side/off balance

So today when I woke up, I opened the rat cage like always to give them their food and some treats and noticed that Dexter was having a hard time standing up straight. His head is tilted to the left and that seems to also be the side he's falling on. He's still eating a lot though (he loves...

    Simon and Dexter :)

I haven't been on in a while but I just wanted to come back to post some more pics and say that Simon and Dexter are both doing great still! They really love each other. ^_^ I think they get along better than my previous two rats who were actually sisters and had always been together. I got...

    Dexter

Dexter is a boy I got to be buddy to my other rat Simon, from someone right here on the forum. He's a beautiful white rat with red eyes, I believe he was said to be Siamese? and a dark brown mark on his nose. He's gotten fairly big, still bigger than his adoptive brother, and sometimes I think...

How many rats in your bedroom?

I only have two in my room, but I could probably have a few more if I had a bigger cage and wanted more than two haha. I clean the cage once a week and like said above I usually get comments about the smell close to cleaning day. Luckily my room is upstairs so it doesn't really go to the rest of...

    Simon and Dexter :)

Yes, but I'm definitely going to look into the single. Anyway here's some pictures. Sorry for the through-the-bars pics but if I opened the cage they would've gotten up. Raaaah you guys are doing it wrong! I've only seen them go inside of it once, otherwise they sleep on top. -_- But at least...

    Simon and Dexter :)

Awesome I might have to look into it. I have the rats in my room though and it's technically an attic, so the walls are kind of like this: / \ Which is the reason it won't fit unless I put it right in the center of the room. :P

    Simon and Dexter :)

Not really any recent pictures but I did buy a hammock from someone in the Garage Sale part of the forum that I've added to the cage. They seem to like it, I've noticed them going in it already. They're both doing really well too, getting bigger and bigger. I was also wondering for anyone who...

    Considering Selling Hammocks

I ended up buying one of the hammocks from here as well. ^_^ It's really well made and the price was great. Here's a picture of it in the cage. Neither of them are in it but I have seen them use it at other times! Which is good because they never used the one I had before.

Then & Now Photos - Share Yours!

My Simon has had quite a big difference so far. When I got him he was so tiny. Before: Now: Dexter doesn't show as much of a difference since he was pretty big already when I got him. He's also really hard to take picturs of. Before: Now:

    Simon and Dexter :)

I used to always roll up a blanket and put that in the hammock and my girls loved it that way, when they didn't pull it down to bring into their house. I finally saw Dexter in it today, and when I cleaned the cage I rolled up another blanket (it kind of makes like a tunnel they can go into) and...

    Simon and Dexter :)

Yeah I'm really glad they like the wheel! I'd heard a lot about male rats being pretty lazy, so I'm glad they like it so much. I know they're still young but hopefully they'll keep up with it. I'm definitely putting it back in the cage next time I clean it. I think they might use it more than my...

    Simon and Dexter :)

Simon and Dexter are both still doing fine. They're getting along like they've known each other their whole lives. There's not even that much fighting or squeaking surprisingly. They love the wheel. I don't have it in the cage so they only use it when they're out for play time but I'm thinking...

    Simon and Dexter :)

Oh awesome, I didn't realize you had also helped transport him! He definitely is well traveled. He was great in the car, pretty much slept the entire way.

    Simon and Dexter :)

Hi again! So I was finally able to pick up a friend for Simon today, thanks to Crumbilina and minnieflower who originally had the babies (she posted them in her thread here). Crumbilina was awesome enough to pick him up all the way in Toronto for me and keep him until I could come and get him...

    Baby overload!

Eee I can't wait to pick him up. :love5:

    Simon and Dexter :)

Yes he's super cute. He is eating his blocks and veggies and drinking from the water bottle. He's getting a lot bigger pretty quickly too. Yeah, I think the vacuum scared him. My other two rats were surprisingly fine with it whenever I cleaned their cage, but I'll have to bring him downstairs...

    Simon and Dexter :)

I just took Simon out of the cage to clean it, and after I put him back in he hasn't moved. He's really really scared for some reason. :( I'm giving him some time to sit by himself before I try taking him out again. Might've been the vacuum or something that I used that scared him. And sadly I...
