Rat Shack Forum Server Donation Drive

I hardly ever come here but saw that you were having a funding drive so I just kicked in a few bucks. I think the community is worth supporting, it’s good to have a non-Facebook resource to come to.

    Baby rat or baby mouse?

Yes, that’s an adult mouse, and thank you for saving him/her. Cats are wantonly cruel, and they are well fed by us, so you’ve done a good thing. Hope you find a good place to release it

Hi everyone, old member here, wondering who's still here

Hi again everyone - I recognize several of you! I really am out to lunch - I finally checked my mail today (old smallvic account) and saw a slew of email. Terrible :-) Pinkerton has gone to the Rainbow Bridge peacefully and at the vet's, leaving me with his bunny brothers. I won't be getting...

Started a rescue? Read any books about it?

Hi everyone, I've been a member for a long time but I can't recall the last time I posted here. I don't visit very often. I have two rescue buns, Parker and Hervé, both were found outside (two different cases), and one rescue rat, Pinkerton, who he and his brother came to me by way of a small...

Hi everyone, old member here, wondering who's still here

Hi Jo! Glad to see you! You know, this is weird to say, but I think that with the issues that Facebook is facing, and the way Reddit is laid out, forums are likely to make a bit of a comeback. They were good community building tools. Facebook seemed better for many things, but it doesn't...

Hi everyone, old member here, wondering who's still here

My name is Jane, my username is smallvic (obviously) and I have been a member since the beginning. I used to rescue rats. I dropped out of everything for a long time, and yet I still kept pet rats except for a two-year window. I have an old, old boy now (maybe not so old, but 2-1/2). About six...

RESEARCH PROJECT For guardians who have had rats with mammary tumours

hello again, everyone (after really long absence!) I have received two emails, several months apart, from a thankfully persistent researcher who is looking for citizen participants in her research on preventing mammary tumours in rats. Ideally, your rat has had a mammary tumour and had it...

The Official Christmas 2013 Secret Santa Show Off thread

Today my rats finished the crocheted pouch treats that my Santa sent me. The first ones they had were a mystery but after thy figured them out, they loved them. Now, because of this and this thread, I know what to do with all the fleece shreds that I have. Treats shall continue! Wish I'd thought...

Vicious rat, or just confused? - SNIP TIME FOR CASS!

From scanning the replies, it sounds to me like Rat Daddy takes his own testosterone too seriously. My thoughts when reading your initial post is that swatting, while natural, is bad advice and isn't going to do squat except make Mimo mistrust you. Swatting is emergency-get-away reaction only...

The Official Christmas 2013 Secret Santa Show Off thread

My Secret Santa sent me this: http://instagram.com/p/iCAT_upv4v/ http://instagram.com/p/iCAeIhpv4_/ Notice the little knit things at the base of the tree. Those are pouches filled with treats, that the boys have to gnaw through to get at. Dweezil is in heaven. Except for the pasta. He's just...

So what are the numbers and locations of the rats that are still available for adoption?

Montreal QC - Bird and Exotic Animal Hospital

Actually, you're wrong about my being determined. What's the point? I go in, I ask, they say no. They say why they say no, but it's about their own expertise. If they refuse to give me what I ask for, what am I going to do, go to another vet? (Yes, but usually not after having already paid the...

A good vet for a neuter in the montreal area.

Avoiding is a strong word. There's a person there I'm avoiding. And I avoid paying $400 for surgery. But I have no money for surgery anyway these days :-( and I have a new rabbit who really needs a neuter and I'll have to wait for spring or a really good job, whichever comes first.

A good vet for a neuter in the montreal area.

I like Dr. Woodlock at Hopital Veterinaire Vimont. It's a long way to go, but he show & tells you everything. I have no complaints (other than the premium price for emergency consults. But the regular consult price is lower than on-island, which compensates for the long trip.) Sent from my...

Montreal QC - Bird and Exotic Animal Hospital

I made that clinic my go-to place for medication-treatable illnesses a few years ago, but not for surgeries or for non emergency consults. I like some of the staff, but I too have had great difficulty getting any other treatments than what they want to do first. A long history of arguing to try...

Stimulating the appetite of an emaciated rat

 I feel guilty and I miss him terribly and I am grateful for your sympathies. I have to avoid thinking about it more for tonight as I'm exhausted. I'm going to go out and do some business networking  and then party like this hasn't happened and as if I was half my age. But there...

About the rat shack forum. Please read

I'm really glad the Shack isn't closing, and that all the money has been raised. Ditto on everything KMG365 said. I rarely come only because I exhausted myself on rescue a few years ago, and felt that my contributions were all covered here by others. I still find it a great resource for research...

Stimulating the appetite of an emaciated rat

After warming him for a few hours, he took some food at 10 pm. I rehydrated him and brought him to bed. At 2 AM I woke and he had crawled up beside my head. He was bruxing a bit. I got up and gave him a LOT of food that he finally had an appetite for. He continued bruxing. I wrapped him up and...
