    Eijie

Eijie is the reason I was able to get rats again after giving them up. I picked her out for a friend and fell in love with her. From the moment we held her in the lobby of KC Pet Project, neither of us could imagine not bringing her home with us. She was not a very old rat (I doubt she was 2...

    rat keeping food from cagemates

As of right now, I have started putting food piles on different sides of the cage and trying to watch them, but they don't seem to have any problems when I'm around. I think it's when I go upstairs that they do it.

    rat keeping food from cagemates

I can start trying that with Syl. I can't believe it took me so long to realize what wad happening. I hope I can fix this and make things better for him and Merlin.

    rat keeping food from cagemates

So, I adopted four brothers, all five months old a while back. Two have since passed. But, before they did, they both struggled to keep weight on. A third boy is also very petite, but not as unhealthy as the two brothers I struggled to keep weight on were. I thought, because of how sickly they...

    Dotty starts his journey

Sounds like a sweet boy who will be missed and remembered. I hope his journey is peaceful.

    small rats

No, me neither. That's the problem I'm running into as well.

    small rats

I'm doing some research into dwarf rats and the could be.

Thank you. I think so too.

    small rats

They're about as long as the side of my hand, which is almost 5 inches. My hand is right next to her. The angle is just strange.

    small rats

I've had people ask me before if my rats are dwarfs because I seem to attract petite female rats, but these really could be. I might try and track down the lady I got them from and ask her but, honestly, she breeds mostly to feed (she just had a moment of guilt and gave me my three because she...

    small rats

I adopted three sisters in June. They were 3 months old, I thought, although I was told 4. Now, at 7 or 8 months, they're still very small. They look like little babies more than any of the other young rats I brought home did at that age. I will have pictures tonight, but they are each still not...

when a rat dies, do you always want another??

I think it's gonna be harder in January. Tootles and Milo (my foster kids) are going to hopefully be moving back in with their mom and I'll be back down to ten.

when a rat dies, do you always want another??

I have to stay away from rescue sites too. I'm trying to focus more on the rats I have to distract me. I can't afford or deal with more.

Afraid to put hand near biting rat?

Will he allow you to touch him while eating a treat? When I had a biter, we did a lot of our bonding while he was eating, because he would relax then and let me pet his back.

    They are all so cute.

    Angry Rat

That's weird, then. Maybe do get a second opinion.

    Angry Rat

Are they running any tests while they quarantine him? It would be best to know what's going on before you try again.

    Angry Rat

Let yourself be a little optimistic. You did the right thing by giving him this chance. And almost all my hormonal boys improved with a neuter. And giving him a month or two is good. Jinn, my angry boy, took almost two to totally calm down, but he was safe to handle in one. And I've had one...

    Random Picture Thread...Post Yours :D

I found a good picture of my old girl Gumdrop! I miss her so much. She was always getting into trouble and into things like my water.

How often do you feed your ratties?

It sounds like you're feeding them healthy foods and as long as it's being portioned so that they're not gaining a bunch of weight, I think this seems fine. I feed mine once at night, and then little treats during the day when we play or I clean the cage.
