Vibramycin syrup hasn't expired according to the bottle, can this be true?

For future reference for anyone who might stumble upon reading this, my exotic vet said the doxy was still good even after opening and said I could use it instead of buying a new bottle. I asked for a new bottle though so I could have some on hand. He said the syrup this specific exotic vet...

    Chronic URI treatment?

For what it's worth, I've had success with Healx Booster as a supplement for my chronic URI boy. He gets 0.1 mL a day as reccommend by my exotic vet. It has antibacterial properties and says it's able to help with mycoplasma, as well as boost the immune system as a whole. I wouldn't rely solely...

Vibramycin syrup hasn't expired according to the bottle, can this be true?

Ahh, okay. I thought maybe the date was for the uncompounded doxy but I didn't think of the air exposure. He is still doing alright so I'll wait until tomorrow's vet appointment

Vibramycin syrup hasn't expired according to the bottle, can this be true?

Basil just started sneezing like crazy last night and continues to do so today. He suffered from recurring myco flareups when he was younger but hasn't had one in a year, he's currently 2 years 3 months old. I have some pink Vibramycin (doxycycline) syrup leftover from when his brother passed...

    Tucker - neuter update

Poor Wally!! The same thing happened to my two boys and I put up with it (putting him in time out) until I got bit so hard I still don't have feeling in my finger! The neuter worked wonders though and he never hurt me or his brother again. Hopefully Tucker will chill after his manhood is gone!

Gelatinous matter in feces-- what does it mean?

I've seen this in my rats a few times. I asked my vet and she said the mucus could be a sign of an upset tummy. It went away after a few days, just keep an eye on it!

Can't get the cabergoline into my rat for the life of me.

Sheldon, Yes we do have cabergoline in the states. Sometimes the pills have to be ordered ahead of time. I live in Savannah GA and was able to have the cabergoline solution compounded within 24 hours for 108$ for a 30 day supply. He's getting his second dose tonight and he seems to be...

Can't get the cabergoline into my rat for the life of me.

Thanks guys. I'll get try to get the pills next time if I'm blessed enough to use the whole 30 day supply with him that I have now, it sounds much easier. His appetite is improved today and he seems a little more responsive when I walk up to the cage. Trying not to get my hopes up but he's...

Can't get the cabergoline into my rat for the life of me.

Got it in him, thanks guys. He didnt struggle much but he was upset afterwards-- stumbled around the cage for awhile trying to get the taste out. Tried to give him something yummy to get the taste out but he didnt trust me in that moment, haha. Luckily caber is only once every 3 days...

Can't get the cabergoline into my rat for the life of me.

Thanks Joanne, I'll try my best. I've worked way too hard to get this medication to not give it to him. Would it be better for him to be in a rat burrito I wonder? He might feel a little more secure, he absolutely hates being picked up, always has despite me attempting to work with him.

Can't get the cabergoline into my rat for the life of me.

My caber is already in a liquid lipid solution so I have to do .4 mL. He's still eating and drinking on his own but I've been giving him a few syringes of ensure every few hours. I'm kind worried he won't trust the ensure syringe now after all this though. :(

Can't get the cabergoline into my rat for the life of me.

Thanks ya'll, you make it look so easy haha. How many mL should I do at a time? I feel like .4 mL is a lot at once, but maybe not.

Can't get the cabergoline into my rat for the life of me.

Baron is in the early stages of a PT. After practically begging my vet to prescribe me cabergoline and paying 100 bucks for a 30 day supply, I cannot get even a drop in him. He's always been great at taking meds. He's taken baytril, doxy, metacam, and zitromax right out of the syringe in the...

Does this sound more like an ear infection or PT?

Bad news, Baron seems to be going downhill and it does seem to be PT. My vet refuses to put him on the pred or dex-- she's very wary about using steroids, especially so soon after metacam. I even offered to sign waivers and stuff that would make her unliable as long as she would just try the...

Does this sound more like an ear infection or PT?

Well his mobility and dexterity is back to normal with just the metacam, it's just he's fairly lethargic (but he's always been a lazy chunk) and just sort of... Spacey I guess. He doesn't go crazy for treats anymore and doesn't get up to the door to greet me. There's just something off about...

Does this sound more like an ear infection or PT?

Baron is doing really well on day 2 of metacam. He is no longer falling off any hammocks and can hold even tiny yogies in both hands without using the ground at all. He's still having a little trouble grooming his butt and tips over unless he's leaning against something but that could be because...

Does this sound more like an ear infection or PT?

I'm headed to the Washington DC area. There are a few exotic vets I've seen there but they weren't great with rats. I'll post a video a little later, but after taking him to my normal vet today I have some promising news. She doesn't think it's PT but rather arthritis and the beginnings of HED...

Does this sound more like an ear infection or PT?

No, he has absolutely no head tilt. He just seems a little confused and out of it, and upon closer inspection I noticed he's having a little bit of trouble in one paw with grasping. He took a small tumble off a hammock, so he's definitely very clumsy. I remember last night I put my arms out...

When he first wakes up he's a little squinty but once he gets going his eyes are normal.

Does this sound more like an ear infection or PT?

Thanks lilspaz. I just realized that sometimes he doesn't use his paws to eat a treat, like if he's already lying down he won't get up and will just eat it off the ground. Sometimes he puts his elbows on the ground to help balance himself as he eats. But if he's already sitting up he'll use his...
