Rat chewing everything that she shouldn't, nothing that she should

That is worth a shot. What I do now is push a bunch of furniture together and put fleece over it all, and add tons of stuff for her to climb/hide in, and she's just interested in finding a way onto the floor. I used to push their open cage up to be included in this play area (I did this with my...

Rat chewing everything that she shouldn't, nothing that she should

Yes, she has a companion in her cage with her, and they live in a critter nation with lots of hammocks and things to climb on, as well as hiding spaces, wood blocks, cardboard, fabric to burrow in/shred, and a flying saucer type wheel if she were interested. They get a large area to play outside...

Rat chewing everything that she shouldn't, nothing that she should

I never had this problem with my other rats, but my girl Matilda is a trouble maker. She will only chew on the cage bars and the litter boxes, she refuses any wood and cardboard I put in the cage. I tried putting fresh fruit juice on the wood (I read that it can help), and she was only...

    Hello from a returning member

Hello everyone, I was an active member of the Rat Shack about four years ago and I recently got some new babies after losing my last colony, so I'm back! I forgot how difficult it can be to be a rat owner without people to share your love of rats with, and since most of the people I know don't...

    Stuff on my rat *graphic*

I was pretty excited that it wasn't something more serious that needed surgery, and the meds really cleared it up after just a few days. Lets keep this thread going, though! It's important for us to be aware of the different things that can happen to our rats and this thread is perfect for...

Who actually enjoy cleaning their rats' cages?

Since I moved into a new apartment without a washer and dryer, I have to hand wash my fleece liners and hammocks... so it's a lot more annoying! BUT, the the fabric smells much fresher for longer when washing by hand, not sure why, but at least that's one plus.

    Stuff on my rat *graphic*

I know! You guys said that when it happened and I posted pictures, so I brought her to the vet ASAP and it had nothing to do with her vagina. It was just real sore around it and she kept leaking pee constantly.

    Stuff on my rat *graphic*

The vet said that this was a urinary tract infection, with burning/scalding to the vagina due to the infected urine.... I'm not sure if that's accurate, but the course of antibiotics and pain killers cleared up any issues that were going on, thankfully.

    Wannabe rattie owner

I would say that the most expensive and hardest part of owning rats is the vet expenses, if they get sick or develop tumors. In the future, I wont get a new rat unless I have the money to spay her shortly after (I like to keep girl only colonies). Aside from that, rats are amazing pets and are...

    Dander?

It sounds like mites to me, which is honestly very common in rats. You need to treat your ratty with Revolution for kittens to get rid of them.

Moomoo <3 - New Pics Daily

I love how much attention you and your hubby give to Moomoo. You're both such amazing pet owners.

    Rat Dads

My boyfriend Brian loves our rats. At first he was sort of weirded out by the idea of having rats as pets, since he didn't know anything about them... he thought they would be like having hamsters or gerbil. Now that he understands how social and sweet they are, he absolutely adores them. He...

Who actually enjoy cleaning their rats' cages?

I think for the most part I agree with the others; I don't particularly enjoy the cleaning aspect, but I LOVE how happy my girls seem when they're checking out their nice clean cage. Because of moving into a new apartment and the holidays, I went the longest time I ever have (about a week and a...

Play time fun! *Pictures* *Video Added*

You seriously have the best set-ups ever, whether it's cages or play areas. I always show them to my boyfriend so he can see how awesome the areas can be for the rats. I am definitely getting a play pen set up as soon as possible! It looks like so much fun!

This is what happens when you give rats

The first time I have my rats raspberries, it was in the morning, and I had forgotten all about it... when I looked into the cage later in the day I nearly had a panic attack seeing all the red smeared all over the cage. Ratties can be sooooooooooo messy sometimes.

    Navi's spay site

Thank you all. I guess she's fine since it only feels weird, but it looks perfect and she doesn't seem to be in any pain or discomfort when I touch it or when she is climbing and playing.

    Found a lump? Tumor? ):

My Lady Calista is the same age and has a mammary tumor in the same exact spot. Bad genes are no fun, poor babies.

    Navi's spay site

I can't get a good picture of it since it's covered in fur, I'd need more than two hands to get a clear picture. :p But no, it doesn't look red or discolored at all, it just feels like there are stitches in there... I have felt scar tissue on humans, and it doesn't feel like that, but maybe it...
