    hey

Wow, your ratties are stunning! I am from Victoria BC but then moved to Parry SOund 3 years ago. Was able to sell my house in an inflated market and buy outright here. I miss Victoria only for the restaurants and shopping! Thank God I can cook and internet shop here at least. Welcome to the Rat...

Houdini Rat from double FN cage Mesh cloth

I did it. I finally found the proper mesh and my roommate and I meshed in my FN cage. No more escapes and the cat cannot get her paws between the bars. Moved the cage to the living room where the rats are more exposed to people. Although they are both pretty friendly rats and we have no problem...

Houdini Rat from double FN cage Mesh cloth

Hi All, Can someone please tell me the brand of mesh cloth they use to mesh in their cages? I live in a small town and the only product I can find is the type that comes in sheets. I have tried a variety of things to try and contain the houdini but to no avail. I plan to make a trip to Barrie...

escaping from a double FN cage

Hi There, Has any one else had the problem of adult rats escaping from a FN cage? I have a med size female named Lola that has pulled a Houdini act on me. I have no idea as to where she actually gets out but I do have an idea. The space beside the doors is a little tiny bit bigger then the other...

    itchy rats

I try and limit the protein. They get the lab blocks and then some people food. Mostly veggies. I have some dried bread with flax seeds that I was saving for them. I am going to try the Olive oil trick. I do think that one may have dried skin now. Thanks a lot! I love my new pets and want to do...

    itchy rats

Is it normal for rats to itch themselves a lot, not excesses just a lot. My ratties look perfectly healthy with glossy fur and clear eyes. They eat well. I just noticed they scratch a lot. No scabs or anything on them.

    freezing the bedding

I have been reading this site for a few weeks now and have discovered something very unusual...you rat people are always right!! LOL I thought I was perfectly content with my superpet cage, I even defended it. Now I have a FN cage and guess what...you rat people were right! There is no comparing...

agreed. The people do not have a computer and all I have is a contact phone number so anyone interested can just send me a private message and I will give them the number. Hi All, I just bought a brand new ferret nation cage for my 2 ratties for 100$. They still have two left. Trying to get my rattie friendly

Thanks, I know it will just take time. I had one of them today scamper inside my sweatshirt. It was pretty cool. I want them to come out so they can get some exercise but I guess they just are not ready yet.

    Galvinized steel cages

Lucky for me I was able to get a full refund and did not purchase the steel cage. I bought a superpet cage used for 100$ so I'm very. I read that the steel leaves a zinc residue on the rats feet then the rats lick their feet. This can result in zinc poisoning.

Trying to get my rattie friendly

I adopted two females about six months old. It looks as if they were well cared for just not handled very much. I was just reaching in and picking them up handling them for a few minutes then putting them back. I was doing this a few times a day. AFTER READING THIS SITE, I have changed my...

    Canadian pet suppliers

My ratties were on a seed diet but I have switched them to the lab blocks made by Living World "Extrusion". They grab the blocks out of the dish have a nibble then leave them on the bottom of the cage. Seems very wasteful as I am throwing them out when I tidy up the cage every night. Should I...

    Canadian pet suppliers

I am having a hard time finding a good rat food and supplies. I am interested in finding a product called "Nutrical" or Ferretvite. I have heard rats love it and it will make a great training tool. I live in a remote area of northern ontario but will be traveling to the city, Barrie, soon so...

    fleece liner help

This is a really interesting thread for me. I was using care fresh in a large super pet cage. I just switched to the fleece today and yes I bought the dollar store pet blankets. My ratties have already balled it up and shoved out their igloo and wood house but I think I will just put a larger...

    reassurance needed!

I recently adopted two hooded rats, female about 6 months. One is very active and curious, an ideal pet rat. The other is very timid and doesn't seem to move around the large cage much. She is very sweet but I am worried about her! I even cut my weekend short at my boyfriends so I could race...

I have them set up in a temp cage as I am having one custom made and it is not ready yet. I bought a book on rat care and...

    Galvinized steel cages

Hi, Is there anyway to safely paint a steel cage? I had a large one made for our future pets now I am reading that galvinized steel reacts with rat urine! Honestly, who would have known! :-) So what can I do to make the cage less smelly and safe for the rats? Thanks.

Hi all, My daughter Reilly is 7 and wants a pet rat (2) so badly. I have been doing tons of research and they look like great pets. I am a big pet person, all are very well cared for and understood. Any rat that gets us ( My daughter and single parent mom ) as owners is lucky. Currently we have...
