    Show those roars!

Such funny pictures and rat tongues are uber cute :D. Does anyone feel like yawning themselves when looking at these? Like when seeing someone yawn, I almost always get the urge to yawn myself.

Is 3 1/2 a good life span for a rat?

3.5 years is a long life span in rats. For me, anything from 3 years and more is "old". I'd guesstimate that 3 years is approximately the equivalent to a human in their early 90's or very late 80's. So 3.5 years is roughly equivalent to a human in their mid 90's.

    A little too brave?

Oh the poor rat/mouse (looks like a rat to me) is so hungry. It's only a youngen. I know it's cute, but I get worried when I see things like this.

I am going to cry...I am so distraught and Upset

:hugs: Some people really do suck. It's such a pity that you and other good rescues have to put up with so much as it is, without having to deal with disgruntled jerks.

    My Vegetarian Thread

Just curious, but would people be willing to pay twice as much for meat and other animal products if you knew the animals were raised well, not stressed out by being transported anywhere and were killed quickly (without hearing or seeing the other animals die nor seeing blood and the likes)? So...

Commercial eggs and chickens consumption. *crueltywarning*

You are more than misquoting me Ryelle. I said that if you eat commercial meat, eggs & diary you are responsible for the cruelties associated with the production of these products. I still drink some commercially produced dairy so I am responsible for some of the atrocities that go on, but I...

Commercial eggs and chickens consumption. *crueltywarning*

On the contrary, vegetarians, and vegans in particular, are definitely not hiding their heads in the sand and are definitely not responsible for the atrocities. It's like blaming someone who refuses to buy pet store puppies for supporting the puppy mills. If anything, most vegos/vegans have...

Commercial eggs and chickens consumption. *crueltywarning*

It's the exact same in Australia (where I am), to sell meat commercially it must be killed at an abattoir. It makes no sense to me, and I suspect that perhaps some unions protecting slaughterhouse workers had something to do with it. Why is it that in the UK it is legal to sell meat from animals...

Commercial eggs and chickens consumption. *crueltywarning*

Organic products have to do with not using chemicals which includes antibiotics. It has nothing to do with the welfare of the animals. I don't understand why people equate organic with cruelty free? These are two are very separate and unrelated things. In addition to this, the chicks and adult...

Commercial eggs and chickens consumption. *crueltywarning*

JS, please understand I never used any phrases saying that anyone who eats meat are bad people. I know there are some vegan/vegos who think that all meat eaters should burn in hell, but they are a rare breed (fortunately) and probably should see a therapist. Jorats eats meat and so do my parents...

    My Vegetarian Thread

My weakness is fish including canned tuna and my favorite dish contains fish. But in the end it was the environmental reasons that really forced me to stop eating fish. Things like depleting fish stocks and birds, turtles & dolphins being killed by the nets and drift lines. My next challenge is...

    My Vegetarian Thread

Chicken was hard for me too. Fish was even harder. It took me years to totally not eat fish. Not so long with chicken but maybe about a year, but in the mean time I weaned myself off. I think the idea of not ever eating chicken again is probably more overwhelming then going for weeks without it...

Commercial eggs and chickens consumption. *crueltywarning*

If you create the demand by purchasing the product then you are responsible for that product continuing to exist. Beside that bird/cow (or whichever animal) was killed by someone so that another person (the consumer) could later eat it. So those workers killed that animal on behalf of the...

    My Vegetarian Thread

Regardless of whether we are supposed to be omnivores or not, it is the mass factory farming and mass slaughter at abattoirs that causes the brunt of the cruelty. I have a friend who raises and kills her own animals for food, I think this is infinitely better as the animals live good lives and...

Well that's great if they do. That is the ideal way to get out food.

Commercial eggs and chickens consumption. *crueltywarning*

xxchelle, with commercial free range they still kill the male chicks and kill the females once their egg production ceases (at 18 months). Tarah, going vego/vegan is always a personal choice no matter what motivates a person to get that way. Also many people (like my husband) have made that...

Commercial eggs and chickens consumption. *crueltywarning*

Warning: The video contains images of chickens suffering. Please watch this. This video is very sad and simply wrong, but this is the reality of what happens to commercial chicks (both egg laying and meat chickens). Remember that the people in the video working at the plant are treating these...

    My Cat & Rat

LOL! Phyllis your cat looks so perturbed. For those with cats and rats, how do you guys stop the cats from clawing the rats through the bars or jumping on the rat cages? I have both animals, but the cats never have contact with the rats. I admit I am a tad on the paranoid side as some of my...
