wooow!
They look great!
What a fancy playground you've made for them!
But aren't they a bit overweight (some of them at least?)

Looks like a fun play area for them! lol Firben I was thinking the same thing about some of them. They're so squishy! Might need a diet for some of them?

Yang your rats are adorable as usual!!

I'm different from Jo in the fact I believe in the shorter a life is, the better, maybe because I am that kind of person, enjoy lifes before it is too late, and instead of making my rats' life longer I feed them better, but of course healthy ones ;)

My rats have a very good and happy life even if they eat blocks and veggies and live longer.

I agree with Jo here...
Our rats eat pellet (Altromin), veggies, eggs (and other yummy thing)..
It's quit unhealthy to be that muck overweigh!
It's just like humans.. No heavyly overweigh/fat people are healthy and it shortens their lives unnessesary!
Who wants fat rat? It endanger their lives and they don't feel good.. So i'm not buying that the shorter a life is, the better - I really don't understand how you can say that!
And no I don't think you feed them better. You feed them more unhealthy and fat food - which is just as bad for rats as it is for people..
No healthy human beeing eats Burger King or MacD everday!

She didn't say that she feeds them better than anyone else. She said that the girls have lost weight since they've come to her and I imagine she's still trying to get them down a good deal, right? Because we all like squishy rats ;P, but some of them look dangerously overweight. She said she gives her girls healthy treats, it's not like she's feeding them McDonald's or anything. She also said that the extremely overweight girls don't get treats at all. You can see that a lot of them are also a very healthy weight.

To be honest, I can TOTALLY understand her philosophy... but I think the difference is that Jo's rats are probably some of the happiest I've ever seen, they certainly aren't living anything less than a happy life just because they don't get processed, commercialized treats. But I still understand how one might feel that encouraging a longer-than-average life that is certain to be accompanied by hind end degeneration and other problems might not be "the best." I can see both sides of that.

Anyway, back to the pictures: your rats are adorable as always. What always amazes me though is what beautiful coats they seem to have. How many do you have now?

 Oh they are sooooo cute. I especially love the one lying in the pink thing.

Miss Sofie - Goodness, don't be rude. Did I say I feed them fat and unhealthy foods? QUOTE ME! 2nd, everyone's entitiled to his or her own opinions and point of view of life themselves, you're not to judge, and I'm not to judge the way you looks at things too.

I believe in nice foods, shorter lifes, less sufferings, not every people is the same, who're you to judge me pfft.
You've made an "As*" out of "u" and "me" by your assumption, you're NOT to conclude that I FEED UNHEALTHY STUFFS TO MY PETS just because they're fat, mind you, then I'd say you starve your rats when I see them underweight, would you feel happy about it?
GOODNESS SAKE, this is a happy&&. friendly site, I don't see the point of going on with you to make eeryone unhappy &&. get kicked out over here .

For once again, STOP YOUR ASSUMPTION.
You don't even know anything, so shut it .
Can't believe someone's jumping to the conclusion I feed unhealthy foods.

&&., I WANT FAT RATS, HAPPY?

Hey calm down!!!!
Maybe you should read what I wrote before you go bananas....
I never wrote that you feed your rats MacD og BK..
But you wrote that you feed them better - so I guess I thought that it was giving them fatning food..
And I wrote that being that much overweigh is very unhealthy for them!
I just a bit chocked that some people want fat rats instead of healthy rats..

Yang feeds his rats organic healthy foods. He feeds them what he can in a place that is not really catering to rats as pets.
A lot of the rats have come to him already big. It's always a concern when we see fat rats but many times, they are rescues and still getting used to the new environment and hopefully will start to lose weight.

Yang, I don't have a problem with what you feed your rats, I don't agree with it, but don't say my rats aren't happy because they don't get good food. Healthy rats can be very happy rats. It's not either or. Long living rats can be happy rats.
I'm sure we must be misunderstanding each other, I'm sure you don't mean to say that you don't care that your rats live short lives and hope for it because it means you can feed them bad food.

I am pretty sure that this is what Miss Sofie got out of it..
That you'd rather feed them tasty fattening snacks, not minding the consequences of a shorter life. i am sure that a rat can be healthy and happy at the same time, and i am also sure that Yang, doesn't think that a shorter and unhealthy life is better than a healthy one..

I'm pretty sure Yang isn't saying that he wants his rats to live short lives/is TRYING to shorten them. A lot of people feel that, for themselves, they would rather die younger and healthy and physically fit and enjoy their lives rather than prolong their life as much as possible only to be bedridden or in a similar situation. My grandma wanted to be let go rather than live unable to do things for herself. I think this philosophy carries over into what we want for our pets.

I think by "feeds better" he meant tastier things, not implying his diet is healthier than Jo's. I think the misconception though is that rats like Jo's aren't as happy as rats that are fed more treat-like things more often. You can see in Jo's videos how happy they are and how much they love the fresh fruits/veggies they get as treats. It's the same for people... junk food gives pleasure for a moment, healthy food makes you happier overall.

Well Yang I don't think your rats are too overweight. Some are chubby, but so what! Your rats look very happy, they are active and their fur is glossy. I've had fat rats live to over 3 years and slim rats die at 2.5 years, so I'm not fully convinced about the slim-rat-longer-life theory myself. I think obesity is extremely unhealthy in any animal (humans inclusive) and reduces quality of life, but I do not perceive these rats as obese at all. The chubby ones look active and as long as they are willing to scurry around during floor time and don't get puffed walking about or climbing up ladders, than that's fine. I think Yang is doing an excellent job with caring for his rats and it's fair enough that he got annoyed, I'd be annoyed too.
