Thanks for the info. rat.charmer.

Aspen is much more expensive then pine, however they should not be requesting donations of pine shavings. As previouskly mentioned they need to be reuesting donations of carefresh , aspen and fleece blankets. They also need to be requesting donations of yesterdays news unsented kitty litter.

I will be sending them another email as it has been 7 days and they still have not bothered to respond to me. I think I will be quoting some of the NB regulations as outlined above.

No you are not being ignored. Things are very busy and I am not at my desk all day.

We appreciate your concern regarding Elizabeth and the babies.

It is clear that you care very passionately for animals.

While it is not our policy to discuss operational issues publicly, we truly appreciate your concerns.

Please rest assured we take this matter very seriously and it will be dealt with in an appropriate manner.

Nanette

In response to "what happened to the babies?" :]

Yeah they don't deal with operational issues publicly cause that's often the only basis upon which groups like this can be sued!!
She is totally trying to assuage your concerns and butter you up. "You care so much!!! It's awesome! Now leave me alone!"

Oh no no, I know what she's doing. I just find it funny that it went from suggesting Elizabeth just ate her babies to "we cannot discuss with you happened to the babies." She also ignored the other questions regarding updating the website entirely.

well at lest it seems like people here are trying to make things better good job  to bad the shelters given you / us rat lovers the run around.

Look at the web site of the Moncton SPCA and they say they have no affiliation with the NB SPCA and any money raised by the NB SPCA does not go to the Monction SPCA. IT is the Hoover Shelter above the door. That is why they can do what they will. Clark

I didn't realize that!! That explains a lot!

so its not an spca at all? i guess that it used to be though? otherwise why would people be calling it a spca... that's not good that they are carrying the title of SPCA still. when you google moncton spca, they are who come up too. so they are even calling themselves an SPCA.... but if they are not one and they are doing these kinds of things that can tarnish the reputation of the SPCAs then i would think the real SPCAs will get upset about it and want to sue the moncton shelter themselves. especailly if this get a lot of bad press...

But if you look at the NB SPCA web site, they list Moncton SPCA as one of their location to find pets for adoption.
Then they have an area for those not affiliated with the NB SPCA and Moncton SPCA is clearly in the affiliated part.

I'm not sure what their trying to say really... it's weird but according to the NB SPCA site, they seem connected.

Found this on the Moncton SPCA site:
The Moncton SPCA is a member of: Canadian Federation of Humane Societies (CFHS)
New Brunswick SPCA

Unless they just incorporated for the use of the name? They have their very own board of directors. Weird.
Unless they mean for funding. In Sudbury if you donate to the OSPCA and not specify Sudbury SPCA, your money will not go to Sudbury.

that's got to be it. otherwise when lindsay got the reply back from the NB SPCA they would immediately say that the moncton SPCA wasn't part of them to avoid any bad press by association. no business or organization wants to ever be associated to someone that has the potential for bad press if it can be in any way be avoided. it would be even more important for organizations that rely heavily on public opinion for good will donations. even if they think we're just going to go away they have been warned that the media has been contacted. the media, if they take an interest, is harder to discount or brush aside then "crazy rat-people" that i think is what they are considering us at the end of it all. they certainly are not taking us seriously.

speaking of the media, has anyone gotten any response from anyone outside of the SPCA yet? has any of the MPs gotten back to anyone? i know i haven't and i plan on calling them directly. they can't put a phone call to the side and forget about it. that may be an idea for those that have not gotten a reply from anyone yet as well. emails can get bulked up in the shuffle and so it does not look like as many people are concerned as they are. phone calls have to be dealt with individually and immediately. if you are not getting satisfaction from an employee you can request a supervisor and all the way to the top. it may take a while and you may want to write out your points before the call to remind yourself though and make sure to take notes if you cannot record the conversation.

going beyond the rat aspect the situation itself is not acceptable and neither is their handling of it. they cannot be allowed to think that this sort of thing can be continued or will be looked over. the animals go there for their protection. they will not accept "we're doing the best we can with what we have" we cannot accept the same excuse from them.

Nope I've never gotten any other replies from anyone. The only reply I got was from the guy at the NB SPCA. He hasn't emailed me back though so I'm hoping he's looking into this mess.

She's stopped replying to me as well, she won't even talk about the possibility of updating the website. I forwarded a compilation of my e-mails with the shelter to all the addresses listed by SQ today.

I'm impressed. The Times and Transcript called me and asked for permission to put my letter I sent to them in the letter to the editor spot. It was the email that I sent to the SPCA. Nice to know they see it as news worthy! I still haven't heard anything back from the NB SPCA since the last email but could be because they're investigating?
I never did get an email from the SPCA themselves.

Awesome Lindsay :D

I'm sure the NBSPCA is looking in to it. The Moncton SPCA has not been responding to anyone now, it seems, and the few short e-mails they have sent, they've been trying to be very careful with their words. I'm sure it's being investigated.

Nope he didn't say but it was today that he called. Do they have letter to the editor in the every day paper or is it just on saturdays? It will be interesting to see if any one responds to it lol 'cause a lot of people reads that section from what I'm told.

lindsay, did they ever publish your letter to the editor? my mother has been trying to find the article their online site but hasn't had any luck

I haven't seen it yet. I didn't get to check yesterdays though because I wasn't at work. The people at work know it's going to be in the paper so they will save it if it was. I'm going to see if I can figure out how to find it online. Hopefully it'll be this week.
