I can take them if someone can get them to NB for me.

Anyone have a larger cage they can sell/trade? I've got a 2x1x2 here that's filling up fast :(

The cage you presently have is only large enough for two rats.
You can use online cage calculators to find out the max. number of rats that can live in a cage.

Wow. That's not a good situation then. I have 4 in there.

I guess a cage shoppin' I should go. :(

Just a quick follow up on my last post there- I remeasured my cage and it's 28x16x30... so my initial guess of 2x1x2 was wayyyyyy off. I recalculated it to get 7.8 cubic feet. I've got 5 ratties in there right now, so I'm over populated by one rat. :( So I still need to get a new cage, buuutttt that means the current cage is perfect for my males (I've got 3 males). I'm thinking about a Ferret Nation cage, but I'll have to save a bit of scratch first since Pets Unlimited wants 289.00 for the two story FN.

Marcus ^ the cage calculator that accounts for shelving space and such is down I think, so I'm guessing you used the regular one. It doesn't consider hammocks, shelves, etc. so your cage is actually more than likely fine for five, especially since it's only short of being enough cubic feet by .2'. I wouldn't worry. ;) :)

Sweet deal :) I've got 2 metal ledges in there that run the depth of the cage and stick out about 6 inches. I've also got hammocks and a big corner litter pan that one girl seems to think is a bed/litter

If you have two girls and 3 boys in one cage, I hope they are either spayed or neutered!
Otherwise you will soon be overrun.
Also, it isn't good for girls to be bred too young or too old, have too many litters in their lifetime (2 litters is considered the max), or have litters back to back.
Girls can get pregnant within 24 hours of giving birth.

And the cage really should be larger ....

I'm really a bitch when it comes to cages, so keep that in mind when I say your cage is to small. Try to buy one on craigslist or something.

Opps- my 3 males are in a different cage! I didn't mean to confuse there. This cage has 5 females in it- only one is an adult sized girl (and she considers her the queen). The rest are between 3 and 6 months.

Yeah- no mixed gender cages for me! I don't want to double my rat population overnight :p

I'm looking for a FN double sized cage right now... I've been browsing the Kijiji ads daily from NS and NB on a regular basis looking for one. I might have to just build one in the shop in the end.

Maybe I should get another cage and split the girls up into one group of 3 and one of 2? 2 of the girls were adopted together, so they're really bonded to each other and would do ok on their own.

If they are getting along, I would keep them together.
Since rats need to be out to play with you at least one hour a day, the more groups you have, the less time each group gets out or the longer it takes you.
Also, rats do well in groups.

Good point! I've been taking them out individually for some personal time (or just shoulder sitting time in the case of my lazy males  ), so bringing the girls all out at the same time would save time... I just have to rat-proof my room before hand (it's probably muuuccchhh harder to corral 5 girls than it is to keep 1 out of trouble!).

You have to order direct from martins.
The R 695, powder coated, with extra large doors and pull out tray is a wonderful cage.
You put it together using cable ties as the rings that come with it will rust.

One of my girls is a crazy chewer- she chews bars if I don't hang wooden chew toys in all the corners of the cage. Wouldn't she chew the plastic ties?
