Well- I hope everything goes well over night.! (assuming it's night time for you)

I won't lie... I woke up this morning, seeing mama nursing her babies. The smell of a nursing rat is something special; I noticed it yesterday on Mama when I picked her up. when she got out of the nest to get water and eat. I haven't been able to see the babies this morning it's 5:40am I will check and keep you guys up to date.
I have been keeping rats for over 10 years and this never happened to me. I found this ad on kijiji with a two 4month old males and 1 female... I did think it strange that they were not separated... I did want the female because I thought maybe she wasn't pregnant according to the girl she didn't go in heat... right... she gave birth and 24 hours she's in heat again sooooo lol

I want to raise a litter too!
If you want to raise a litter please don't breed your rats.. Rescue a pregnant female instead.. Breeding and birth has so many risks I don't feel it's worth it....

And I'm so glad she's still nursing.! That's always a good sign.! : D

she moved her nest again. she a busy little mama... All babies look well alive. I had to triple count. I will post more pictures as soon as I can.

does anybody know how often I should change the bedding for new born I removed anything that was bloody. So once a week ? or every 3 days? can't find anything anywhere

You shouldn't clean too often with babies only spot clean once a week, clean the food bowl and water bottle when you spot clean. Try not to disturb the babies when cleaning as it could stress out the mama.!

Congrats on the babies
Please give her strips of paper towel for nest building.
Fleece or paper is ok in the cage but nothing that contains threads - as they can get wound around little limbs and necks …. so no cloth
Nothing high - no hammocks or levels as babies and young rats can fall …. they need to be in a cage with small bar spacing or a bin cage or a tank …… a nursing baby could easily be transported outside of that box if mama jumps out and have no way to return to the nest - this could be life threatening

There is good info on babies in the Reference Thread that might be useful https://www.ratshackforum.com/threads/reference-thread-read-only.35894/

good luck

This post was a roller coaster! Keep us updated this photos and videos, that's so exciting! Did you contact the lady who sold you the rat and tell her? I'm guessing she knew and that's why she was trying to get rid of her..

I also cleaned half my critter nation yesterday so I will post those too. I am thinking of getting another add on to my single critter nation with a metal 3" Pan
