Our 18 month old neutered male has been on Clavamax twice a day for 10 days for a respiratory infection. We caught it very early, but went to the ER since our regular vet was on vacation. He was much better after only 2 doses, and the vet at the ER prescribed him for 10 days. I have seen in here most people recommend a 14 day course. We have enough left. Should I continue with it for a few more days? The vet at the clinic didn't seem very sure of himself, so I'm not sure how experienced he was with ratties.

Thanks!

I usually prefer a combination of baytril (enrofloxacin) and doxycycline but what the hell do I know I am not an actual vet.

I mentioned Baytril, since that is what I always see. He keft the room, came back and said they didn't have enrofloxican in liquid form so had prescribed something else. He left to get it all set, then came back yet again and changed it to Clavamax, saying he did more research and thought this would be better. This is why I didn't really think he knew what he was doing.

There's list here of antibiotics for rats http://www.rmca.org/Articles/dchart.htm
it's hard to find a good vet that specializes in rats. Either the vet is uneducated or someone makes a snarky comment on this type of pet. I like the vets those ones who put the rats on their shoulders but still they might not be educated or finding one that doesn't charge 500$ to remove a rats uterus, it's quite disappointing, I wish I could get the equipment not too expensive I would just do it myself and offer the service as cheap as possible to others in need....

I would definitely continue it until you reach 14 days to stay safe. If you don't nip it, it'll return
