Hello all,

I currently have 2 girls both due to be 2 in February
For the most part they are great. One of them I've had since 6 weeks old from the pet store. She has always been sneezy. This year in particular I've been a lot more vigilent & Ive had her on/off meds all year...mostly on. I do a combo of doxy/baytril and this seems to definitely help. She's super active and eats a lot. She still does sneeze a little though.

I can easily have her on the meds for 2 months straight and within 10 days off them she's sneezing & congested again particular just after waking up. This has happened after several monthly courses if antibiotics.

I'm just sort of worried that she might build up a resistance? I don't really know what to do. I kinda don't want to take her off them ever again because if I need to put her on them again shortly after I stop, will she build up more resistance?

I don't want to just not have on them though as my biggest fear is her developing pneumonia or something fatal.

Any advice or tips would be great.

with the congestion, is it more nasal or is it in her lungs? If its just nasally, try steaming next time. She may always be a congested nose type of girl but as long as it doesn't go into her lungs keep the antibiotics for those more serious flareups. You can even get a video and upload it to youtube then link it here so we can see/hear her breathing.

It's definitely more congestion. When I took her to the "unusual pet vets" who specialize in small animals including rats...he listened to her breathing and rates her respiratory health a 1 out of 10. 1 being very minor and 10 being seriously bad. I hold her up to my ear and I hear no crackling or anything deep down.
I just love her so much and panic when I hear any sign of sneezing or resp problems lol.

Yeah I might go grab a steamer and try that

Careful with facial steamers or any handheld or portable steamers. Those things can be unpredictable and spatter out blasts of scalding steam and water that can cause 2nd and 3rd degree burns to the lungs.:( And they can get funky and harbor fungus and bacteria...you definitely don't want to be steaming that into the air and breathing it.

IMO It's better to take your little lady into the bathroom with the shower running on the hottest setting to get the bathroom all steamy. A really steamy bathroom w/ the door closed and hanging out in there on the bathroom floor w/ her for about 15 to 20 minutes usually does the trick. ❤:)
