I'm putting this here because it's a little off-topic, but also deals with how I want to memorialize my deceased rats.

So, a little bit of info about me... I love tattoos. I don't have the money to be getting a tattoo every other month (I would if I could lol), but I do like to get them to memorialize my deceased pets. My first (and currently, only) tattoo was for my dog who passed away. I got his paw prints. (If interested, I can send a pic, either on this thread or through a private conversation)

Anyways, getting a little too off topic. I'd like to get my rats paw prints on a piece of paper as well, however, I don't know what's safe for rats. I don't want to buy a child-friendly paint thinking it's safe when it really isn't. Same for pet-friendly ink or paint.

My idea is to have one of my rats, probably Genji, dip his feet in some rat-friendly ink (or paint), make sure he doesn't eat it, and then just have him walk on a piece of paper. Very simple lol. Then, I'd like to get that trail tattooed up my arm and to my shoulder. Of course, afterwards, he'd be washed off to avoid him or the others eating the ink or paint. From there, I'd add paw prints of my deceased rats elsewhere. The place I cremate my babies is an absolutely lovely place that cuts off a bit of their hair, tries to get paw prints, etc. I originally thought about getting these paw prints tattooed with the original trail, but I'd feel bad if I didn't add my future rats.

Anyways, any advice is appreciated! I originally wanted to do this with my Grumpy bear, but he passed away before I got the chance. Genji is a fairly mellow, easy-going rat, so he seems best suited for donating little cute paw prints.

Sort of off topic, but who else has tattoos of or about their rats? I can't be the only one!

Sorry I meant to answer this in your dm! We used food coloring. Just dip their feet in, and let them walk on the paper or canvas. Pepper even drug his tail all over it, which made cute little streaks!

Thank you for the reply either way! Do I need to buy any specific brand or anything?

If I get around to it, I'll have to post pictures lol. I'm hoping for tail streaks! I LOVE rat tails. Dunno why, but their bald, long tails are super cute to me :) Gideon and Grumpy would let me rub and pet their tails all day. Heck, I even messed with them and my patient boys just napped on me, not a care in the world. Genji's starting to do the same, so I'm happy.

Notice a trend lol? G names mean they're my heart rats.

Okay, awesome! Thanks :) When I go to the store next, I'll get some ink and put Genji up to the task. Then snap some photos and share with you guys.

Here is the painting my rats did. Notice the tail marks. Hehe. What you probably can't see, is the hair on it from pepper. I spray painted on a clear coat so that they will hopefully stay on there.

That's pretty stinking adorable! I got a canvas and only one food coloring, but I'll have to have my rats start their own painting after they "donate" some pawprints

It is freaking adorable. It's funny, because my kids made it for me for mother's day,but on the back it says from your favorite children: macaroni, pepper, and cookie. LMAO
