You need to re-weigh your rats in grams or kg. I cannot give you a dose with that measurement.
you CAN express both syringes into a small bottle with a tight lid when you are ready and pull up the appropriate dose that way. Its what I do with full tubes.

1:3.3 OK so this would be 1 lb (454 grams) and 3.3 oz? THAT I can work with (548 grams)

The dose would be 0.09 ml once. Make sure to cap the bottle between dosing rats as it will evaporate very quickly.

So I would just dose them both once? Is there anything I need to do before or after like give them a bath or something?

I’m doing a deep clean right now (in the shower, very thorough cleaning)

If I put the treatment on both my boys afterwards, what do I need to do? Can I just deep clean again when I usually would (every month/28 days)? or should I deep clean again next week? I usually surface clean every week and spot clean everyday as it is what works for me.

Is is harmful if they ingest it by licking themselves or each other even though it is between their shoulders/neck where they shouldn’t be able to reach?

Also, would it be okay to put the medication from the syringes into a cork bottle? Like the ones you can find at the dollar store that can be reseated or do I need to find something else to use?

Thank you in advance. I know it is a lot of questions but it would be nice to know.

Hi, I'm new to this post, but... Once the dose dries, say about 30 min, they can be allowed to groom....BUT.... I myself separate all treated rats and rehouse them overnight in solo housing. You can use carriers, plastic tubs with high, slippery sides they can't climb, anything really. I just allow my guys to roam on my bed for the night and change my sheets, lol. As for rebottling, you have to keep any unused leftovers in an airtight container or it will evaporate, it's in a high alcohol solution, hence the skin penetrating ability. I use caps that come on syringes that have medication preloaded with specific dosages. Once I've used the medication, I keep the caps for future use. They are very tight and snuglys fitting to the tube of Selectin, or Revolution, or Stronghold. Whichever your preference is, lol.

Often people keep each rattie by itself for a few minutes until the revolution dries, after that they should be put back together
separating ratties causes stress and stress can cause illness

Please read the following link. Ratguide.com is a vet approved medical site for rat owners - it is a reliable source of information http://ratguide.com/meds/anti-infectives/selamectin_revolution.php

I don’t really like the idea of separating my rats for long periods of time because they can’t really function properly if they aren’t with one another. They are inseparable.

So it only takes around 30 minutes for the medication to absorb? I do have a blanket that I lag on top of my bed for them to run around on when they are out that can easily be cleaned so I can use that when I give them their medication so I can keep an eye on them as well.

When I said “cork bottle” I was referring to the ones that are glass with a cork but I guess that could suck up all the moisture of the treatment. Could I use a little plastic container or would it be okay to keep it in the syringe if I measure it right (which could be tricky, I know.

I apologize for asking all these questions but it is really important to me to know all the details I can even if it means that I repeat myself many times.

Does revolution expire? I’ve had the treatment for a while but didn’t get answers fast so I couldn’t treat them, I know it’s horrible to do but I want to make sure everything is safe first.

The package I was given by the vet said to give them the measured amount (0.45mL for one and 0.46mL for the other) then 28 days later give them a bother treatment of the same dose (I don’t know why they are supposed to be given different amounts) but I was told on the forum to give them 0.09mL each and check on them 2 weeks later. I know that it is better to trust an experienced rat owner over a vet who doesn’t know how to do her job and is already on my nerves but I am just confused about the time that I have to wait. I know I was told on the forum that I only have to treat them once but why would the vet want me to treat them twice with a bunch more of the medication than suggested on her, if that makes sense.

All help and feedback is appreciated. Thank you for your help. Please answer all questions and as soon as you can.

I gave you the doses based on weight ages ago. 0.09 ml IF your weights were correct.

You only need to treat them once but if you feel you need to (the scabs aren't drying and coming off easily, you can re-dose at 3 weeks.

You can express the tubes into a small bottle with a tight lid, and pull up your doses there. Recap quickly as it can evaporate fast due to the alcohol content.

When I dose my rats I dose and walk on to the next...ideally put it as close to bare skin as possible and try to prevent them from grooming for about 5 mins, to give the selamectin time to absorb through the skin into the blood stream. The smell and wetness takes a lot longer but the dose is already absorbed.

In rescue you have to mass-dose a lot of rats so we don't worry about distracting and separating out. I have a few untouchable rats I dose (and re-dose when I miss etc) and it works every time. Don't fuss the small stuff, get that 0.09 ml on your rats, and in 2 weeks you'll know if it worked.

Please do what Lilspaz suggested. The more time you wait, and ask the same questions (which have been answered multiple times), the longer they suffer from the parasites. Just treat them, with the dose Lilspaz told you to use, and give them some relief.

I know you all are getting mad at me for wanting to know if something is safe before i put my rats in harms way by asking a bunch of questions and I will treat them tonight either way but rat weights fluctuate like everyone else so would it be terrible if they weighted more and I dosed them at 0.09mL still? I will still treat them tonight whether you answer back fast or not so you can all calm down please.

You keep saying to put it into a small bottle with a tight lid but I can't really think of any small screw on type bottles so i was wondering if I cleaned out a old (glass) liquid rat medication bottle really well, would I be able to put the revolution in that? It has one of those child proof lids that screw on really tight.

Thank you so much for all your help lilspaz68, I really do appreciate it and I do understand that it is annoying that I ask so many questions but I can't help it.

I found these photos on the internet representing the gist of what i was trying to talk about earlier. The first photo is the type of bottle that i was talking about above that I referred to as a rat medication bottle (I have not used this medication, it is just an example from the internet of the bottle used). It is glass and has a childproof lid that can be tightened really good. I also found the second photo and thought that that might be a good choice if I was able to find one? Are either of these suitable to put the revolution in for storage?

Thank you.

I got both of these at the store because I wasn’t sure which one would be best for storing revolution. The bottle from the first photo is hard plastic and has a child proof lid. The bottles in the second photo are softer (kind of) plastic with a screw on lid. I would of course clean either out before putting the medication in it.

Thoughts? Which one would be better for storing revolution?

please don’t hate me for what I am about to say but..

I’m having a little bit of a set back at the moment. I know that I said that I was going to treat both of the rats tonight but I have been really sick the past few days and I fell asleep and don’t feel that I am awake enough to complete the task at hand tonight.

I know this is frustrating, I am frustrated at myself too for being so difficult but I am really going to try my hardest to treat them tomorrow as soon as I can. Thank you to everyone who has helped me. I apologize again.
