Jewel had to be put down this morning. She wasn't breathing well (gasping). She had a hunched back, was practically paralyzed, and her teeth were a bit disfigured. She was having trouble eating and swallowing as well. I had no choice. I will post what little pictures I have of her. This was a slow progression that only became noticeable each 1-2 weeks.

Letter to Jewel:

Jewel, my precious Jewel. You were too young to die. But I know you are in Heaven now with Heidi and all your friends, no longer suffering. I had you for such a short time, but you were so sweet, affectionate and cute. I will never forget you.

I found you from someone in Brampton. I didn't know your origins. You seemed fine when I got you, though you were a bit floppy/clumsy. I don't know what the issue was - perhaps genetic.

Things slowly declined and there was nothing that I could do. So I had to let you go.

I got Jewel, along with Cowgirl to keep Heidi company. Jewel was so attached to Heidi. She would snuggle up to her 24 hours a day. You were a good sister to Heidi.

After losing Heidi only two days before, it was the last straw I'm afraid and triggered the inevitable.

I will always love you my sweet Jewel.

Love,

Daddy

Jewel was such a young little girl with so many struggles
I am sure you gave her the best life you could
I am so very sorry for your loss {{hugs}}

I'm so sorry for your losses dan.. How is Cowgirl?

Cowgirl is okay. She's happy when I'm home and let her out of the cage. But she is starting to get lonely. I will be rehoming her with member Lilspaz. I hope she will be happy there.

I think the loss is starting to sink in for her because she has no other rats to interact with right now.

I'm sorry for your loss.. I didn't know them but I'm sure they were both sweethearts..

I hope You will be ok, dan, that's a lot of loss in a short time.. Cowgirl couldn't get luckier than to be with lilspaz, she'll get the best of love & care, and that will be comfort for you.
Run free Heidi & Jewel..

I’m so sorry for your loss! We can tell she had a great life with you and was very lucky to have such a loving rat parent
