Hello everyone!

So, I recently took my boys to the vet for a wellness exam, and while she said that he was in good health, my boy, Guts, has been sneezing quite a bit lately. Not only that, but his nose gets pretty runny every now and then, which makes his sneezes wet. There isn’t any porphyrin around his eyes or nose, and there is no cause for concern with his breathing. He eats and drinks regularly, and his activity level is the same as ever. I was just wondering, could it be an allergen? I use 99.9% dust-free paper bedding, which I change pretty frequently. Is there some way I can help alleviate his symptoms? Home remedy or otherwise? Could he have a respiratory infection that the vet possibly overlooked? If so, I wouldn’t mind taking him back to the vet if that’s what is suggested.

Sorry for the barrage of questions, I’m just an overbearing rat mom. As I’m sure you all understand. Lol. :)

If it's recent I'd start by looking at environment, any Changes in Weather? (dry air can cause that, jars of water around can help). Product changes? (laundry soap, cage cleaner, etc). If not and he & everyone else is good otherwise he may just have a crappier immune system which can kick in from anything at any time, or worsen as he ages. If you can get some Liquid Immuno (google it) it may help boost his immune system. Start there as they've already been seen by the vet :)

Thank you very much for your response, Fidget! I’ll definitely have to give the jars of water and Liquid Immuno a try, see if that makes a difference! Can I buy the Liquid Immuno at a specific store?

It’s strange because shortly after making this thread I noticed that my other boy, Balor, often experiences similar symptoms of consecutive sneezes and a wet nose, but each of their cage mates, who belong to my sister (Balor and Guts are caged separately due to their inability to get along), don’t experience these symptoms. Maybe it’s like you said, they just have poor immune systems. Nevertheless, I’ll still give what you suggested a try! Thank you for your help! :)

I'd try what Fidget said and if that doesn't work I'd consider taking him back to the vet for a re check to see if they missed something.

Liquid Immuno isn't cheap, but it's great if they're not sick enough for antibiotics. Google it either buy it online, or call around to Vets, some buy the large bottle and will sell you a smaller portion.
Just because all your rats aren't affected doesn't mean it's not just something in the environment, as I say, some kids are more reactive to some things than others.
