SQ will recommend using bowls for water that can't be spilled/turned over. I use ceramic bowls for this.
I just have Petsmart/Petco-bought water bottles. I also have Fleet Farm-bought water bottles, but I don't know if Fleet Farm exists outside of MN.

My best tip is a bird waterer. They can be ordered online of bought in pet stores. The one I use screws onto the cage and is sort of a cup with an open lid that my girls really love to drink from.

I have a ceramic water bowl as well. They like to play in that.

yes water dishes are very important - for drinking, playing and bathing :)

btw it is extremely important to have at least 2 sources of water in the cage.

I just put in a big thing of water for my rats to play in. They're more interested in the rocks in there than the peas I dump in there. It's like a Betty Crocker container. Very long, not too tall. Interesting to watch my babies just hop in while the adults sit on the sidelines.
Only issue I have is they continually use it as a liquid litterbox, or they dump their fleece in there.
