Possibe future abscess

Hey,
I just joined this forum. Super exited to be here. so my rattie jerry has a little pimple like small limp under his chin. Im worried it might turn into an abscess or somthing. I got jerey a month ago with his buddy mickey. They weee feedees at the grange. (If you havent caught on i name them after famous mice.) Im probably over reacting but if you think its somthing please let me know.

i was also wondering how much money you should have on hand at any given moment for each rat in case of an emergencey. (i got 2 rats)

I would suggest at least $300 for each rat, and keep adding to the account
or have a credit card

but it depends on what a good rat vet in your area charges for various procedures and even just a visit …. plus medications are expensive.
By the time you notice a rat is ill, you are well into a medical emergency so seeing a vet and starting treatment (medications, xrays, surgery etc) immediately is important

great thanks i will take a look. im pretty sure hes too young to have an abscess and was breeded ethically(at least where im from). but anythings possible.

im pretty shore that from what it said its not an abscess but i will routinely check it to make sure. if it get worse i will do a warm compress. i am not too shore on how to carry out a warm compress so some specific details would be much appreciated. i will also start to add more money to the rats savings i have enough for the time being but i will need to get more into their savings and start to look for a good vet in my area. (were i live is kinds famous for their medical so i Don't think that will be a problem). XD THANKS!

It would be helpful if you at least put the country and the province or state where you live as thing can be different depending on location

That is great that your are thinking of adopting rescue rats in the future when you get more rats,
but you should know that while this is a rescue forum and we encourage people to adopt rescue rats,
members of this forum do not need to have rescued their rats, many people have purchased their pets

Ethical breeders are as rare as Unicorns. And you said that your boys were bred to be feeders - that pretty much guarantees that they were not bred ethically.

Not sure there are any ethical rat breeders ……………… but ethical breeders would never sell feeders and would never sell to a pet store. Neither would a breeder trying to breed for health or lifespan because they need to track the health of every single rat

The little pimple thing is actually normal in rats, there is one on the side of their face as well, much more obvious with nakies.

Yah i tend to agree with you. They are treated very nicely there.( no back rooms, its all out there) they are nice to them and feed and treat them well dispite being feeders. But there is really no ethical breeding of ANY animal espechally if there is the same one in an animal shelter just waiting to he loved while there out there making more. (I might just like what i just said back there!) But they are probably as good as it gets for breeding.
