I want to buy rats sometime in the short future, but so far I haven't been able to find a good cage that could hold two male rats. Does anyone have any suggestions that they think might work? I would like to buy a cage for less than $100, as I am saving up my money for the other necessities (vet bills, toys, bedding, food, etc.). Please let me know if you have any ideas.

I would check craigslist! I've found a few really good cages for cheap on there that just needed a thorough clean! Just keep in mind rats need a lot of space, and love to climb, so the higher the cage goes up the better, it should also have a few levels for them to climb on or you can build them yourself in the cage by attaching dollar store baskets to the cage. Also make sure the floors or levels of the cage is not wire as that can cause bumblefoot or if they are wire be prepared to modify the cage by covering the wire with material or a tray etc. hope this helps!

I found these two cages on Amazon, but I'm not sure how well they would work for holding two male rats.
The first cage is bigger but is wire throughout the whole cage. I could cover it with fleece or coroplast, and it's an easy fix. It's also powder coated, which will help keep the cage from smelling.
The second cage has not as many levels, but a larger door that makes for easier cleaning. It also has a ramp and level made out of plastic, but this might be a problem if the rats like to chew on things.

Thanks, Maddie. I will try checking Craigslist and appreciate the help.

I highly recommend saving more money before getting rats. Rats can be costly when you factor in everything they need, especially for vet visit.
