That's still not NEARLY enough airflow. Their urine is very strong with amonia, and that can damage their lungs. When she has babies, you'll want to clean her cage as little as possible for a little bit, so you don't disturb mom and babies, or stress mom out. So airflow is a must.

in a bin it can also be easy to overheat given the lack of airflow (depending on how many large grids the cage has) so keep a close eye on her

You will need to clean the bin daily

you may also want to check out the double critter nation cage, also sold under a different name at petsmart https://www.petsmart.com/small-pet/...evel-small-animal-cage-21573.html?cgid=600201 ……. however, if babies are kept in only 1 section of the cage they must have a full pan as babies have been killed by crawling under the cut out pan and getting stuck the the floor under the pan

This is the dad and no this is not his cage

:):)That's a LOT better than a bin! But something we forgot to mention, is bar spacing. The DCN may be fine for when the babies get here, but remember, rats only need a TINY space to squeeze through when they are babies (think mouse size), and are fast learners and love to explore and escape if possible. So when you get the new cage, check the spacing. If need be, you can use just one section of the DCN and put mesh o around the INSIDE of the bars, secured with tie wraps. Once they get big enough, just cut the ties, and remove the mesh! I had babies constantly making escapes, and had to get creative with their cage for a bit. :D But also, once the babies arrive, I'd only do spot cleans daily, and count the kiddos often. Once they get their eyes open, and can move and crawl around, around 2 weeks old, I'd do a good deep clean, then return to weekly cleanings, and daily spot cleans (which you should ALWAYS do). By the way, baby rats are amazing to watch grow and learn. Enjoy every minute of it, and handle them every day, so they are good and used to people. Watch their little personalities bloom!

When my friends rat had babies she couldn't sex them so I had to since I've had to sex baby mice before and in that pic I have the dad playing in one of those dog kennels but not to live in. I just weighed the mom and she is now 303 grams.

YES! Actually, rats LOVE boiled eggs! Mine love any kind of cooked eggs. I will sometimes give them a little nibble when I cook eggs for breakfast on the weekends. Mine all will do tricks for them! How is your girl doing? Has she delivered yet?

Yay! Now enjoy them growing and learning! It goes by so fast! Also, I'd start messing with them in the next day or two, so they become familiar with the touch and smell of humans. I'd just wash my hands before and after, so you don't bring any icky things too them. ;)

There is one set of twins that are brother and sister with the brother being the only boy in the litter and there parents aren't Dumbos or grandparents so I don't know where that comes in

Actually, I think I counted at least 5 dumbos. Maybe all of them are dumbo, and no top ears? Omg I'm in love! How many are you keeping?

Two, I'm keeping Luca and my mom's keeping one of the girls who will be in a cage with her mom and Luca will be in a cage with his dad
