My rats have porphyrin and sneezing and have been treated with just doxy, then they were treated with doxy and baytril combination, now they have been prescribed azythromycine...is this a good medication? The vet said that they have built up an immunity to doxy, and baytril was not helping. I give them the medicine straight from a syringe and not in with their water and the vet said it is not allergies as they have that red stuff coming from the nose. He said to continue doxy in combination with azythromycine but if they are immune to its effects is there a point?

azithromycin is not very effective by itself except with young rats
Azithromycin (10 mg/Ib) is excellent when given with baytril, orally twice a day

and if it doesn't. then sometimes all 3 need to be used together

I’ll keep trying until something works! Hopefully this helps them, they don’t sneeze that much but I just can’t get rid of it for them. If anyone knows if it is still worth giving doxy if they have an immunity let me know. Thanks again!
