my grandmother just passed and I wanted to know if anyone has tips for me feeding my two girls for about six days. I have no one around that will take them on such short notice and need quick advice for how to feed them while I’m gone. Should I just load up on food in their cage or get an auto feeder? Please help. This is short notice and I don’t want to stress them by taking them with.

Can you hire a pet sitter?
If they become ill, the power goes out, water bottles get clogged, water dishes upset etc
they could die while you are gone

Otherwise, you need to take them with you

I'm with SQ. There are a lot of little things that could go wrong that we might not even consider right away. Finding pet sitters for exotics seems a little daunting but it doesn't seem quite so bad with rats.

I personally haven't ever used a professional sitting service but before I moved to a new city, one of the things I did was call various pet sitting businesses to see if they had any sort of service where someone comes in to look after your animals during the day just in case. Some of them only advertised caring for cats and dogs but said they would send a sitter out for rats just as well (typically, from what I gathered, the prices were about the same as for cats but it's going to be different for every place). Some places just did outright advertise pet sitting for exotics and have sitters who had some experience. If you don't know anyone who can pet sit, I'd definitely recommend looking into some of these types of businesses for last-minute sitters. I don't know how it is in your area but I would definitely say it would be worth it to look around for someone to come in to at least check up on them. You get a little more peace of mind at an already stressful time that way and a lot of them seem to offer good services. In my area, most advertise taking a certain amount of time to play with and give attention to your pet as well as feed/clean/water. Around here, all of them let you contact the sitter to get updates and they all follow through with any custom diet plans as well. Heck, some of them offered to take the paper in and water the plants for no additional charge.

I'm assuming you have an exotic vet lined up for their care. Lots of times the techs there will offer to take care of and/or feed your pets. They may also know of reliable people that offer the service.
