I am wondering at what age would you say is a good ago to get your boy neutered? My vet told me as soon as you can see "them" but that might have been because I do not know my boys' ages, but I have been told different things by different people. I don't want to take them in too soon, but want them done soon as possible so they can go back in with their sisters in the "fun" cage LOL

So when do you advise I should take my two boys, ages unknown (I am guessing 8 weeks now, but have no idea for sure), and Kathleen's now 5 week old boy in? (I was planning to do all 3 in the same go so they can keep each other warm afterwards)

Different vets have different preferences but mine will spay/neuter as young as 5 weeks old. He's spayed some pretty young girls (6-8 weeks old) for me and neutered a mouse and they all healed super fast.

I am picking him up tomorrow and I just don't want to take him in too soon, so I might just call her on Monday and ask. I figure mine are old enough, but I am not sure about the other little boy. How long would you guys recommend that I keep the boys together before returning him to her?

The vet I was using would neuter boys as young at 8 weeks. I never had any issues, aside from one or two neuter abscess.

I have had my baby boys neutered at 5 weeks....I love it because then they could go right back in with their Mom and sisters and never have to be separated.... A healthy baby boy rat should be very well endowed at 5 weeks...

It depends on the vet really, my vet is pretty good at only $40 each, plus tax, but I hear other vets are more expensive
Where do you live because here in Greater Vancouver BC I have quotes from several vets all around $150-200. Yikes. I have two boys and I am looking for a more reasonably priced vet in my area.

This thread is 6 years old, and she no longer has rats and is no longer an active member
You will notice her address listed under location is in Bridgewater NS.
There is an excellent exotic vet there who will spay and neuter rats at less then half what other vets on this side of the country charge - that is whom she is referring to in Bridgewater NS

The most important thing is to find a good vet with the knowledge and experience to do it safely
Give the high costs associated with Vancouver, I am surprised that the cost isn't more expensive then what you are bring quoted.
