I am literally freaking out, crying because I think I gave double the dose to Deku instead of Darwin getting his dose. I called the vet and was told to just watch him and make sure he doesn't have diarrhea or becomes lethargic. I feel like the worst pet parent ever. I was crying on the phone with the vet tech as I felt like such a failure. I'm waiting for the vet to call me back to let me know what to do.
Has anyone done this before? If so, what do you do in this situation? I gave him some pablum and baby food, which I hope helps.

Here are the meds they're on :
Meloxicam 15mg/ml (getting 1cc), Doxycycline 100mg/ml (getting 3cc) and Enrofloxacin 100mg/ml (getting 3cc)

Just gave both boys their probiotic, so hopefully that will help if I did indeed give one of them double the dose. Though, it's been 3 hours, and they're both energetic, eating and drinking. No diarrhea and they aren't lethargic. I think I may have panicked, thinking I gave Deku double the dose of his meds. They're both the exact same color, so I freaked out. I won't be giving them meds tonight, since I'm not sure if Deku got double or Darwin got double. And from now on, I'll be putting one in a pet carrier once the meds were given, that way I don't freak out. I'm still keeping a SUPER close eye on the guys. Please keep your fingers crossed that everything is ok.

I know no one has replied, but thought I'd update you all anyways :
So the vet just called me and he reassured me that there is nothing to worry about and that there is no danger in giving them an extra dose. He also advised that I give them their night dose anyways, which I will be doing.

Don’t feel like a bad pet parent! You’re doing great. Even if you did give him two doses by accident your intentions were so caring and good. Even if he had overdosed or something it would have completely been an accident as you even called to see how to save him if you made the mistake. The great news is he’s doing fine and I’m very glad that he has such a caring person to look after him!

Freak accidents happen and are unavoidable at times. Just recently I gave my boy an almond sliver and he got so excited to eat it that he shoved it down his throat in a second and then proceeded to choke! This gave me a heart attack and I massaged his throat and gave him water and after he had spit out a bunch of almond he was fine and ran off. But imagine if he died or something that really wouldnt of been anyone’s fault. That’s how I see your situation as well. You just tried to give him some medicine and make him better. Of course I’ll never give them almond slivers again and I’m sure you’ve learned from this experience as well :)

Thank you so much for the reply. It was quite an emotional and scary morning. I'm glad that the vet did call me back, though many hours later. They both got their meds tonight (correctly this time) and got some yummy baby food too! Boy were they happy! :)

I have double dosed rats multiple times, its not a biggie don't worry. Someone snatches the syringe "treat" just as I am pressing the syringe down LOL. Silly buggers.

Its only long term overdosing (except for ivermectin) that is a worry.

OK lets go over your doses. 1 cc and 3 cc? Do you mean 0.1 cc and 0.3 cc?
Can you list the antibiotics/medications again with the concentration of each and the dose you are giving?
Also I would need a weight of your rat as doses are based on each rat's weight.

Here are the meds they're on :
Meloxicam 15mg/ml (getting 0.1cc), Doxycycline 100mg/ml (getting 0.3cc) and Enrofloxacin 100mg/ml (getting 0.3cc)
All of the concentrations are what's on the bottle, so I'm guessing it is the current form. However, I do not have their weight. I don't have a scale here. I believe they're in the 200g. Probably around 230g to 270g (Darwin is the biggest boy!)

Metacam is fine, but the doxy and the enrofloxacin I am PRAYING have been mixed with something as the doses I am getting with 270 grams as the weight
Doxy 0.03 ml twice a day
Enro - 0.04 ml twice a day

Hi lilspaz68.
I'm REALLY sorry! They are indeed getting 0.03ml twice a day, not 0.3. I didn't read the prescription right. Sorry about that.

Just so you know, the lethal overdoses in rats for these medicines is measured in grams (about 2.5g for enro, 1g for doxy) so they would have to have much much more than a double dose for them to be toxic. My vet actually gives them a double dose the first time at the clinic. He reckons it primes them for the treatment. Don't feel bad :)
