At the end of October a 10 month old rattie boy and 3 baby rabbits were being given away Free in a rural area a couple of hours away. It was discovered that the parents of the babies had been put outdoors, had not been seen for awhile and were assumed to have been eaten by predators. :(

Working through social media eventually someone was found to take the 3 babies and another person wrote that her friend would take the rattie boy. I asked people to make their own arrangements with the owner because I did not want to feel responsible for them.
Unfortunately this did not happen in the case of the rattie .... and to make a long story short, the 10 month old boy was sent along with a 2 yr old boy, and I met a transport truck and picked them up in a garage outside of town. Neither boy had names.
I took them home and hid them in a quickly divided cage in my bedroom as I had not been expecting them. Unfortunately the person who was going to take the 10 month old boy had an unexpected change in circumstances, has to move and find a new place to live and therefore can't take the boy and may be forced to rehome her 2 rattie boys :(

So now I have two very hormonal single boys (still hidden in my bedroom blocking access to the closet and my dresser), who want to kill each other ..... and at least one really wants to get me too ..... as I have been badly bitten several times by both boys.

So the 2 year old boy is Neil ... because he loves exploring ........ and the 10 month old boy is killer (name to change once he is less hormonal and I get to know him better).
Neil arrived with bumble foot. After a couple of weeks on antibiotics, the pus is gone and the red, painful inflammation is a bit better.

Two year old Neil has lived alone since he was a baby. Poor little guy :(

Poor little Killer lived with 2 other rattie boys until a couple of weeks before he arrived here - his brothers/friends were rehomed without him :( He must be so angry, lonely, and frightened :(

Feeling overwhelmed and stressed and trying to figure out how to pay for neuters.

Neil in the top of the cage soon after arrival. Killer is in the bottom half of the cage.

My first bite wounds the day they arrived, bandaging is courtesy of the hospital emergency room.
The wrapping was pretty extreme LOL and totally unnecessary, but I guess they wanted to be through
The bleeding stopped after 2 days and the swelling went down enough so that I could start to bend my thumb a week later.

The boys were neutered a couple of weeks ago.

The boys went in for their post neuter check up today.
In addition to having his stiches removed, the older boy had a small, dark, raised melanoma (cancer) on his back which was surgically removed by the vet today.
The vet thinks it is probably benign. He is back on antibiotics for his "bumble foot".
The younger boy is now on antibiotics for a neuter abscess.
The older boy loves building nests in the corner of his cage and the young boy has filled his house with paper and has buried it under paper.
Both boys are doing well and will hopefully will soon be able to be introduced to other rats.
