I just noticed this morning that Badger has a bald patch and some porphyrin around his left eye. As far as I know, he is healthy otherwise but I don't know how serious this is. It could be an allergic reaction to the tiny bit of dog biscuit I gave him yesterday-if it is, do I need to take him to the vets? Or shall I just observe how he gets on for a couple of days and see if he acts different to his normal self? I do have antibiotics but that probably won't be given unless I am sure it is a bacterial infection.
I would appreciate any advice, thank you.

I would wait and see, you could check if anything is stuck in there. I have to put eye lubricant in my bald rats eyes and my vet also said to flush it with saline as he has dry eyes and this helps him. So if you wanted you could try that too as that would help get the gunk out if there’s something stuck. If it doesn’t go away I would take him to the vet. :)

Thank You! He seems quite active as usual so I'll just see how he gets on for a bit.
Also what do you mean by something being stuck in there? Do I check around his eyes for something that might be causing blood instead of porphoryn?

I recently had a rat with a puffy eye and someone suggested to me that some bedding could have gotten stuck in there and said just to look around and see if there’s any thing in there that would be covered with the red discharge. I don’t think it would be blood unless he scratched himself. Just things to consider! Hope that helps a bit :)

Thanks;) It's all cleared up now and somehow the bald patches have dissapeared. I guess I worried too much, haha as always. Thank you so much again for your help:)

I’m really glad! It’s great that you notice those things for your ratty. Sometimes they just get some eye discharge that doesn’t mean anything so I’m happy it wasn’t anything to worry about. :)
