Bellamy

They were 1 year old in September.
Bellamy developed a lump on his side under the skin.
I thought it was a mammary tumour and took him in to see the vet. The vet did a needle biopsy, found lots of happy bacteria, and said it was an abscess.
Bellamy is on clavamox.

Well it is a week or so later and the lump is growing, it is now visable and it is no longer just under the skin, it is growing inward.
It does not seem to be acting like an abscess imo
The lump has also become 2 lumps/bumpy - reminding me of Clarke's strange, aggressive mammary tumour
- and the 4 tumour surgeries she has had (so far) as a result

Bellamy has a vet appointment tomorrow afternoon ...... and I am afraid

I am so relieved! Everything went well
Bellamy saw my vet, who immediately scheduled surgery later that afternoon.

Bellamy's mass was removed and he is recovering well.
My vet said it was very difficult to remove all of it. The bumpy mass had a stalk and was solid.
My vet sent away the mass to a lab because he was unable to tell what it is.
I hope that he was able to get it all and am looking forward to finding out what the mass is

Sometimes abscesses can grow on tumours. Hopefully your vet got safe margins and your sweetie will do a full recovery.

I thought it was likely an abscess associated with a tumour too .... but the vet said no, it isn't a tumour and he does not know what it is.

Bellamy is healing well.
Unfortunately, like his brothers, he is quite hormonal

Bellamy and his 8 brothers were scheduled this summer to be neutered along with their 9 sisters who were scheduled to be spayed and the aggressive rattie boy "who deserved to die" that I rescued was also scheduled for a neuter.
Unfortunately the Bellamy and his 8 brothers did not get neutered.
I had to cancel their neuters after Godmother (Dr Wendy Rogers), a former member of this forum, did not pick up her elderly boy as promised. I had been caring for her elderly boy for months because he required 4 - 6 hours of care a day. I notified her several times I could not care for him as I was taking a 3 day trip to get rats neutered and spayed, telling her to make other arrangements for his care. She wrote that she would pick him up but when I emailed less then 48 hours prior to my trip to find out when, I was told she would not be getting him because she was on vacation in Europe - leaving me with the choice of either leaving him behind to starve to death or cancelling their neuters and leaving my 9 boys behind. I left the boys behind.
Since June I have repeatedly let her know that I expect her to pay the difference between what it would have cost me to neuter them in June and what it will cost now. She refuses to assume any responsibility and I can not afford to make up the difference in cost. Moral of the story - Don't trust anyone

Bellamy is fighting with his brothers as he is so hormonal and has thus been living alone since his neuters as the aggression is too severe when I put them back together (which I do daily in their play area)

I’m sorry that has happened to you. I hope it’s not too stressful both financially and emotionally. You’re doing such good things for those rats, I hope you’re very proud of all the positives you have brought to their little lives and everything goes smoothly from now on. Sounds like you have a lot on your plate! Make sure to treat yourself as nicely as you treat your ratties

I am incredibly stressed as are my 9 hormonal boys (they were rescued as babies with their mama because the snake owner rehomed her snake and was going to dump them all outside to die ie "release them into the wild" if I didn't take mama and her 20 babies)

Wow some people are just awful, I seriously don’t understand how anyone could just dump them outside and leave them to suffer. I’m so glad you saved them, I’m certain even though they may be hormonal that they are truly being given the best chance at life. I hope you will be able to get them neutered and they all calm down a bit for you. Take good care of yourself through all this! Are they up for adoption? If so maybe there’s a way to adopt them out to loving, trusted owners or some kind of safe shelter? I just hope you get some kind of support, it must be hard.
