Suspended tunnels in cage

Hey y'all! You all were so helpful in my last thread, so I figured I'd try and run another idea past you. I was going to make a whole fleece tunnel system suspended from the top of my rattie's cage. However, I put a hammock up there about 5 weeks ago, and he has never used it. He'll put his front paws up on it or even jump up to grab a treat if I put one on it, but he doesn't seem to like anything that "wobbles" and isn't totally sturdy. I don't really want to spend lots of time making these tunnels if he's not going to enjoy them.
On the other hand, he does love tunnels. My husband's work throws out tons of heavy duty cardboard tubing that he brings home for Gimli, and he loves running through them! They're about 3 1/2" in diameter. I'm thinking of maybe suspending those from the ceiling using zipties, because they'd be more sturdy than just fleece. I'm also wondering if it'd be safe if my hubby cut them in half, so they were little half-pipes suspended from the top of his cage, and he can run through those but I can still see him. Any thoughts?

You can use PVC pipe and drill holes in it to bolt it to your cage....or as I've done, Kaytee now makes giant tubes for larger animals (ferrets, guinea pigs and rats.) They are made of hard, durable plastic and they are see through. They have built in "air holes" that I used to zip tie the tubes to the cage. They have a corner tube and a T-tube so you can build a whole course! They are on amazon but I found them on sale and cheaper at Petco. Good Luck with your tunnels!!!!

Some of my rats loved the suspended tunnels while others didn't really use them. I guess it all depends on the rat.
