Hi guys,

My rat has recently been diagnosed by a vet with a head tilt. My vet prescribed medication for him to help with the inner ear infection. My question is, how long on average does it take to see signs of recovery? My little guy has had 2 days of medications. I feel so bad to see him all tilted :(

How bad is the tilt? How long was it between seeing the tilt and starting him on antibiotics. Most times the tilt can remain (possibly lessened) even after the active infection is gone. I call these Ratties Tilties, and they adapt and have normal lives.
What antibiotics are you giving? For how long is the treatment? Also do you have a weight on your boy, the concentration (mg/ml or %) of the antibiotics and what dose you are giving?

A little more information...

We try to take our rats out in the morning and for playtime in the evening. Monday everything seemed ok, although he was a bit more sleepy than usual but just like his normal self. On Tuesday morning my S.O. took him out of the cage and he had an obvious head tilt. We booked an appointment for noon that day.

At the vet, he weighed exactly 100 g (he's still a little dude). He has a head tilt and an upper respiratory infection at the same time :( He was prescribed Doxycycline Supension for 1x a day at 0.05 ml, and Enrofloxacin for 2x a day at 0.05 ml. The vet mentioned she was trying to be aggressive with the antibiotics.
