Oliver is my new rat who I just got done with quarantine, and I had 2 very chill boys already. The problem is, my boys are fine when I have them meet Oliver and only get riled up when Oliver is, and Oliver is scared and squeaks when they just say hello. Does anyone know how to make the experience more positive for Oliver? I don't want the sweetie to be in a seperate cage forever, that just seems sad to me (unless I cannot bond them :( ).

Rats need to be gradually introed so no one is hurt

Here are the established gradual intro steps https://www.ratshackforum.com/threa...ps-used-when-putting-new-rats-together.32368/
and joinrats.com has a lot of good info that may help

and you can do initial intros before moving to neutral area intros by putting them together on your lap in order to help them feel more safe, if they trust you
But the danger is that if they are aggressive toward one another, you can get bitten so this is not recommended

Yeah, I've tried looking up several tutorials, it I'll check this one too :)

How are you making them meet? Through cage bars? If so, rats will always act a bit territorial and or worried when they are inside their cage.

I have cages close to each other at night and neutral territory meetings right now :) 10 min intervals on those. Olive just power groomed Len so idk dunno if that's positive.

sounds good ……. as Jorats said, you will want to extend the intros
they need to be 20 - 30 mins long so that anxiety levels are starting to drop

I was going to clean my floor with swiffer solution tonight, but my two boys play around on the bed in there and it smells quite a bit like rats (though I can't tell which boys lol) in my room. However, it's warmer than my bathroom. Do you think I could use the floor as neutral territory since they've both been on it? Or should I use my bathroom to be safe?
