My ratties even the picky ones, even when they wouldn't eat medicine hidden in mushed banana, would almost always eat it if mushed into red lentils. It might take some coaxing and playing with the concentration of medicine vs red lentil mush so that they aren't too full before they're finished but not too concentrated that they wouldn't eat it. I'd hold it in my fingers in a ball and they'd carefully munch chunks of it. They weren't allowed to go off with the whole thing otherwise they might stash it and I wouldn't know if they actually ate it or not, or if someone else ate it.
To be successful, they needed to not really have other treats in the day. Medicine time is treat time. So the rest of their food was just Harlan Teklad blocks and some bits of kale, apple, carrot etc. Though seniors who were winding down, withering and having trouble keeping on weight would have as much wet HT blocks and rice/lentils with very finely chopped kale in it (anti-inflammatory) as they pleased.
It was even more successful than rice or grainy bread. Mushy red lentils was by far their favourite thing to eat and healthy. It's gotta be the red lentils, not green or brown. No seasoning.
