Hi. This is my 1st time here. Forgive my ignorance but I'm not quite sure how to post anything. On Mother's day, I came across a homeless pet rat outside. He's white & brown & came right to me but was scared to death. I've been reading & watching videos about rats for days. So glad I found this site. My new boy is Cashew.

I had a similar experience a few years ago, I didn't end up keeping the ratso but I got my first pet rat not two years later. My babies are Luna and Licorice and it is so nice to meet a new rat owner. If you need help with socializing, feeding or care tips I check my posts every few days. Good luck!

Glad you were able to save this little guy.
Cashew is a nice name. Is there a story behind it?

He is definitely a lost or abandoned pet rat .... poor boy, I am sure he has been through a lot and is very fortunate to be alive and to have found you :(

You will need to get him at least one rattie friend

There are established gradual intro steps for introing rats so no one is hurt

Hope you post lots of pics and ask lots of questions because there is always more to learn when you have pet rats
There is a lot of info on this forum .... and ideas

Thank you for your comments, Sheldon. I've learned so much from this forum. I was afraid to ask too many questions. I know it's best to have a rattie friend for him but I don't want to get a pet store one. I've checked the shelters.. so far, nothing. He just got his new home yesterday (ultra cool cage) that my son bought him. He's been on 3 meds for a week so hopefully when he's all better, I'll find another one. Hopefully, not by the dumpsters where I found him. People make me SICK just dumping their pets. I'm pretty sure it was the mom w/ 2 kids in my building. They're the RATS!!

Maybe you could let them know that someone found a rat and you were wondering if they had heard anything because you are wondering if there were any more because you want to get pet rats ...... then if they have another they want to get rid of or if there were more then you will know ...... that way they can not decide they want him back ....... because your boy might have a friend or brother you could rescue

I keep knocking on their door. No answer. Next time they terrorize my cat through the screen, I'll jump out and ask the icky mom. Good idea to ask for a brother. I email the shelters every week. They've all said they get rats all the time but now that I'm looking for one.. NADA. He gets tons of attention from me... almost all day. he's so spoiled.
