I have this rat, Gordon 1 1/2 years old. Yesterday i came downstairs to feed the boys and he wasn't using his back legs at all, he also seemed very lethargic. Since it was too late for a vets visit i set up a cat carrier with lots of blankets food water, everything. 4 hours later he was eating, Walking, And was energized again.. I don't know what to do next??

Setting up an appointment with a vet as soon as possible is probably a good idea. He seems a bit young for hind-end paralysis; he might have had a minor stroke, or you could be seeing the beginning of a pituitary tumor.

Vets who are not exotics specialists may not be able to diagnose a PT. If they can't figure out what's going on, see if you can get a referral to a specialist.

(Senior members-- If any of this is erroneous, please correct me.)

He is at the right age for a pituitary tumour but they don't usually recover on their own. I'd be more concerned about possible bladder infection or maybe he was having cramping or perhaps something neurological was going on, like perhaps a stroke or seizure. For now, I would keep an eye on him but if it does happen again, he needs to see a vet straight away.
