Okay, so, there was a possibility I was going to get two baby rats in June. I've informed the person I am not taking them. I might still end up with babies, though. In my search for two more girls, I stumbled on an ad on Craigslist for three 3 month old girls. And they are very sweet looking and I immediately felt my heart melt. And then I noticed something interesting about these female rats. At least two are boys. It's very clear in their pictures. The problem is, I can't see the third well enough to be sure. I can't make out nipples, but it isn't a good angle. I was going to email the owners and see if I could point out the error and pass on these rats. But then I read to the bottom and saw that they will be feeders very very soon if someone doesn't take them.

So. My email was instead a very short and sweet, "when can I get them, and can I transfer you the money or do I need cash?" But I'm still concerned about the third one. If that one is a girl, it's very likely she's pregnant. I'm staying hopeful that it's a boy, but the thought is getting to me. So, yeah. Please keep your fingers crossed for me that I don't have to ask for baby advice really soon.

Does anyone think they can guess the sex of this rat? This is the one I can't tell. I don't see nipples, but I could just be missing them, or they might not be visible in the picture.

Okay, I'll upload some pictures when I get to work, but I have all three. Despite pictures that me and two other people were sure we saw balls in, they really are all three girls. They are babies, though. They're smaller than my other three month old and they've still got that soft baby fur. They don't fit in the cage I had set up for them. They could fit through the bars. I fixed up one of the little Petco cages I hate for them for right now. I had a new cage coming today anyway for my little boys, and it should actually fit them well, so they'll be moving into a nice big cage today. It all works out pretty nice.

I learned that the situation with the owner wasn't what I thought. Reading the ad, I assumed she had some unwanted babies and was going to have to give them to someone as feeders if someone didn't take them soon. She, herself, was a feeder breeder. She just, for some reason, was having second thoughts about giving these three to her snake. It was a little weird. But I'm just glad I was able to get them.

All three have the sniffles. My vet thinks it's probably fine, but they're on antibiotics right now, just to be safe. Once they're all at 100% and their quarantine is over, I'll move them down to the rat room and get them set up down there. And then I'll probably introduce them to little Mari, since she's the closest in size and age and matches their energy level. And she's never met a rat she didn't like since I got her. Hopefully, by August, they'll all be living in the triple critter nation I have set up with Mariel, Tamsin, Perri, Pancake, Bramble, and Ripley.
