Hello!

I am new to the forum and new to pet rats. I currently do not have any pet rats but hope to get some really soon :)

I reside in Toronto, Canada and wanted a pet that's crepuscular as I have a work schedule that has me changing my sleep cycle between days and midnights weekly, that's when I found how perfect pet rats sound!

The question I have for those willing to offer advice is in regards to who I should get my ratties from. There is always the Humane Society where I can offer some rats a good home. However, I am a new owner and think it would be nice to get some from a good breeder who will be able to offer their support and a guarantee on their health (well, for the most part). For those wondering, this is the breeder I've been looking at: http://jazzeduprattery.weebly.com/

Anyways, that's a little about me! Hello again everyone! :)

Welcome!! :)

Sorry, but there are no good ethical rat breeders.

Please adopt from a shelter or a rescue.
Thee are a few rescues in Ontario such as Ottawa Rat Rescue, Little Friends Rescue in Guelph, and Small Creatures Rescue in Toronto.
There are also many rats being rehomed on sites such as kijiji

There are also a number of people on here who rescue and rehome rats in your area, such as lilspaz68.

You will need to get at least 2 rats of the same sex.
Please check out the various sections of this forum to discover info re diet, housing, toys, health care etc
One of the most important things you will need to do is line up a good, experienced rat vet.

Thank you :)

I took SQ's advice and submitted an application to a nearby rescue. I am also getting a double critter nation next week (then the fun of decorating begins :D ).

If I have any trouble will I be able to depend on the the help from people in this forum? This is essentially going to be the first time where I'm the primary (and only) caretaker for a pet, I'm a little bit nervous but also very excited!
