I just noticed that the ad poster posted a new updated ad with a different phone number (it's still the same account as the older ad, just look under other ads) and they've reduced the price of their rats to $5 each, and now there is a danger of them going to snake owners. D: Can anyone help save the baby boys and the girls from this ad poster?

A big thanks to Sterling's Rescue for saving these rats! =^.^=

"I have the Harleys! They gave me the last 7 other than 2 little male friends for dad!
All females are out of the house!!
We got 4 girls and 3 boys.
My god they are precious

There was so much to this story and yet not as much as was initially thought.

Here is the true story:
Family got 2 rats a boy and a girl
Not sure where from as Mom could not name where, kids didn't remember (I only asked to find out where they might be breeding harleys and where would sell some family a male and female together and not try to educate in the least).

BOTH litters were oopsies. First litter popped and they didn't know dad could get mom pregnant again right after so....as it commonly happens among the ignorant (which is not a derogatory term it just means they didn't have a clue about breeding) she had 2 litters 4 weeks apart.

Now as for being 'Monstrous' mill breeders. Not at all. Again just uneducated.
I was asked to make sure there were no females 'hiding' anywhere. They may have tried (though I highly doubt it) but their 2-3yr old daughter wasn't keeping them hidden from me. She couldn't hand me rats fast enough.

Here is the sweetest part. The male 'Yeti' (so amazingly perfect for this giant white spikey haired boy) belongs to the toddler. She lugged him out of the cage like a child does with a puppy from a crate and hands him to me "ee a go" she'd say every time she plopped a rat in my arms. Mom says a few things in hungarian and then says Yeti pointing to him. I laugh and say perfect and she laughed.

We decided it was most important to get the females out for 2 reasons.
1) to prevent any more being born in that house
2) they looked the smallest and most in need of some tlc

Now the babies were all a little underweight but mom had also been taken from them a week ago and they were force weaned.
The Dad, Mr. Yeti was huge and no concerns over his weight and health.
I don't know about mom but in the photos she looked almost as big as dad so I doubt she was right emaciated. They do love the rats.
I said they should keep the last 2 for Dad to have friends and the oldest daughter (11 or so) said if he would let them live there she would like that. (they didn't know a male would be happy with other males, thought it was more like hamsters). I said Dad would be very happy to always have rat buddies around. Boys are safe because they can't have babies together. And the son says "Yah mom doesn't want any more of this happening."
I look at mom and she looks exhausted and relieved to have these babies leaving.
So we picked out two boys and triple checked they were boys. If I was unsure I would say I really liked that one or that it was a girl. And the kids were happy with the end. And mom gave us 7 for the price of 6 because it was the last of them.

I never once got the feeling any of that was on purpose. I understood mom wanted the babies out and wanted to make some money to support her 3 lovely kids.

No one was hesitant or dodgey answering questions. They were having lots of fun showing me all the babies and daddy Yeti.

We have named the smallest boy Squatch who looks just like dad :)

1 baby girl already has a home with 4 of my recently adopted babies from the last 2 litters.
All boys have homes also between two past adopters. They are only going to previous adopters that I have a continued good relationship with. I think I will keep the remaining girls here with Godess and Oracle as Godess has taken to the baby girls so well. She tucked them in last night in her bucket house and then when they came out to eat the cereal i made for them She guarded the bowl so Oracle couldn't push them out.
Hopefully she grooms them and helps them get bigger and stronger. Their names are
Quinn
Blossom
Busy and Fat Amy (who is ironically the smallest)

The boys joined Bumper and Benji and the other white boys. Its such a flurry of white fur in their cage! Names are
Davidson
Marlboro or Lil Mo
Squatch or Samsquanch (trailer park boys reference)

Happy endings. No more drama

All babies have been adopted. 3 of the girls are staying here but the rest went to their new homes and everyone is super happy.
It was fate that my previous adopter who is the most gentle soul I have ever met was looking again for a companion or two for the rat she adopted from me 2 years ago with his brother who had recently passed. These Harleys needed to end up in safe homes and she could not be more perfect for them!

Hey Sterling, did you check back with the family to see how Yeti and the two other baby male rats were doing?

Yes I did. Sorry I meant to message. The young boy David (if I remember correctly) said they kept the baby boys with Yeti.
They would play and have fun and mom didn't mind just 3. He said thank you for helping them find good homes.

Which brings me to update. 2 more baby girls went to a new home...previous adopter of mine who will spoil them rotten. So now I just have my little Fat Amy left whom I will keep for sure.

I just found this post yesterday while doing a Google search.

What is interesting is Yeti didn't get to live with his two sons very long. The family sold the sons and gave the father to me at no cost. When I got him in September 2016 he weighed 525 grams, had newspaper lining his small Ware Chew Proof Cage, and sunflower seeds scattered on the bottom. He also had a loud myco flare up.

In my care he gained 100 grams and his myco sounds went away with treatment.

I also ended up with his daughter from another owner a few months later who was a rescue. She weighed 200 grams and in my care quickly gained 130 grams. At the time when I got Yeti's daughter I didn't know they were related until I stumbled upon a post that had a photo of Yeti and his backstory. I renamed Yeti which he learned to respond to as his former name didn't phase him. He learned how to use a litter box as well as click training for treats. What a smart boy! What a small world!

More pictures of Yeti and his daughter with another harley are in my profile. Gosh, they are beautiful and breathtaking...!

Here is a preview of one of the photos. Yeti is the harley with the pink eyes. The photo was taken a few weeks ago.

Thank you for the update
Such beautiful ratties

I rescued a mama and her 2 litters in early August and so far only 3 have found a home :( ...... sometimes I think I am too picky about where they go and keeping contact with adopters ...... this post affirms how important it is to screen carefully, have high standards and keep contact with adopters so that hopefully rats are given proper care, vet care and returned if people can no longer care for them.

Thank you for rescuing these ratties and giving them the life they deserve

What colour are the rats you're trying to rehome? I've found a lot of people discriminate against certain coat colours and ear types. It's a shame because all rats have something to offer. My dearest rat was a top eared hooded rat. I'll forget her.

Why do you think you're having trouble rehoming? With my current oops litter I'm having a difficult time as well. In order to prevent future oops litters I ordered an escape proof cage from Wayfair which will be here next week. The $200 I paid will save me from a lot of frustration and stress which is what an oops litter can cause.

We want the best for our ratties and of course will not rehome them to just anyone.

I think I am having problems because there is a small population, few people want pet rats and those that do usually do not want to provide proper cages, a good diet or vet care

check with some rescues such as the Ottawa rat rescue .... there are several in Ontario ... plus the shelters often have rats in need of good homes
