So, at Walmart, they have a WHOLE bunch of trick-or-treat Jack O'lanterns, in a variety of colors. Blue, green, purple, pink, and orange, I believe. There may be more! Well, I have a year-round spooky, Halloween themed cage, so I grabbed a green Jack O'lantern, and set to work making it into a ratty hide. Bowie is my lovely model.

-I removed the plastic handle from it, and discarded it.

-Then, I drew an opening on the left side of the pumpkin with a sharpie. I proceeded to cut it out with a box cutter (You could use a razor cutter, or x-acto knife too, anything razor sharp). Make sure you go VERY slowly when cutting, and watch your fingers carefully! It's easy to slip in this thin plastic. Also, the slower you cut, the smoother your edge will be, and if it's perfectly smoothe, then you don't have to sand it!

-Take the plastic you just cut out from the first opening, and use it as a template for the right side of the pumpkin. Trace around it, to make your openings symmetrical. Then proceed to cut it in the same way you cut out the first doorway.

-Run your fingers over the edge. If you feel any sharp edges, go in with sand paper and buff them down, so ratties don't accidentally cut or prick themselves on the sharp plastic.
-
Then put it in your cage, and you're done! Yay ratty house!
