Ah crud, I'll will send some anti-grow vibes to Streaker.
I'm glad he's doing good now and that he is healing up. c:
You gotta post the pic of him in the sock, it's so cute! :D

I wonder if Melatonin can help prevent tumors from growing back in male rats. It is supposed to be good for prolactin dependent tumours and can be given to girls. The dose is a mystery.

He is on a holistic called maitake - she had good luck with it and keeping tumors managable.

Update: Well, it seems what we thought was large tumor mass growing again was not. He has a small lump of tumor, but he now has a bigger lump of abscess. That sucker is ready to pop! I had the vet look at him today while I had two others in for appointments. So, he'll be getting some baytril and hopefully I can pop it later tonight if it hasn't already. So, so far good news for Streaker since we knew some tumor was still in him.

EDIT: This was not an abscess, or at least none I've ever seen. This was fleshy and sticky...

Far out! I suppose the only way to really know what that is is to send for a pathology report. Interesting...

That's not going to happen, the vet fund has hit $0. I email the pictures to the vet that will have to do. Bumbles and one of the nakers recently had a cyst that had white/beige think stuff come out, but this stuff was sticky, squishy, and flesh like. Didn't bleed much - very little in fact. I'm thinking perhaps it was more tumor?

Poor Streaker cannot get a break. Things seem stable on the abdominal tumor for now, but now this. He had this black bump thing appear on his eye a few weeks before the tumor showed up. Vet looked at it in surgery, but it was so small she didn't want to remove it - plus she wasn't sure what it was. Well, now its decided to grow. Anyone have any thoughts on it?

Streaker has a large lump forming, but its in that area that they usually get their "male" abscesses so I'm hoping for that. Darn these nakies are a lot of work... that or I just don't notice so much on my fuzzies....

Best of luck to you and your babies. :(
I can't offer a lot of advice, but I've been following your threads and keeping you all in my heart. :rose: :mouse2ud2:

My mom had a bunch of double rexes with nothing but issues with their skin, eyes... it's so disheartening. I wish breeders would stop producing nakies and double rexes. :(

But the nakies are so darn adorable.... my biggest problem with them is abscesses. Some rat always seems to have one.

The abscess, yes abscess is huge and is forming a black circle about the size of a dime. He's getting ready to BLOW ...... This is exactly what Birney just had - looks identical and his is still healing it was so big .....

Pictures!!
He is currently have it cleaned out by the vet. He's not doing too good and we think the infection took hold of him. He was already compromised with the cancer. He's lost 108 grams and is having labored breathing so they gave him some oxygen. We'll get him some good antibiotics and hope he makes a recovery.

Oh dear, your poor man. :(
That is a pile of weight to lose.
Sending positive thoughts for him.
He's a pretty sick guy right now. I was given the choice not to wake him up from the sedation. He has another big tumor I can feel and a bunch of tiny ones. His lungs sound like crap, but he sounds nasally too. He's all bones and wrinkly nakie skin. They couldn't laser the site because she didn't want to encourage more tumors by bring blood to the surface. We dropped the ball on this abscess. I though it would be better for him to clean it out, but with the cancer he couldn't fight off the infection. So, I made the decision to wake him up and fight like hell for a week. I really think its the infection and not the cancer that's got hold of him right now. So, he's being given the rice baby cereal, soy formula, ground up oxbow w/strawberry ensure combo and he ate that yesterday. He was nibbling on a banana when I left for work. Gave him a fresh bowl of the combo. As for the meds he's on chlorapalm, metacam, tramadol, maitake (herbal), and wound gets flush and packed with silvadine. He has an e-collar again when we're not watching him.

Graphic pic of wound while she was cleaning it.View attachment 3609
